The Lombard 55 Card

Offering an easy way to access interest free finance, the Lombard 55 Card provides interest free terms of up to 48 months at a huge range of partner retailers. Cardholders can also benefit from access to the Visa network, to take advantage of up to 55 days interest free on purchases, as well as 0% p.a. on balance transfers for six months.

What we love...

The Lombard 55 Card offers a number of ways to save on interest. First up, let’s talk about its balance transfer offer. As a new cardholder, you can benefit from 0% p.a. on balance transfers requested at application for six months from card approval. If you have credit card debt you want to pay down, this could be the way to do it.

As for new purchases, cardholders have the opportunity to save with up to 55 days interest free on purchases. While this interest free feature may be fairly standard on most credit cards, the Lombard 55 Card’s other interest free feature is not. When you use the card at any participating Lombard retailer, you could benefit from interest free finance for up to 48 months.

How does it work? When you shop at a participating retailer, you will have the option of paying off your purchase over a period up to 48 months, while paying zero interest. This can work well for larger purchases, such as holidays and furniture, as it lets you pay off what you owe in smaller installments, instead of one large lump sum upfront.

There is a wide range of retailers to choose from, with big names like IKEA and Flight Centre topping the bill. You could pick up a new sofa from Nick Scali, new outdoor furniture from IKEA, or your next adventure from travel agents Flight Centre, Escape Travel, Student Flights or Travel Associates. For the full range of retailers near you, check out the Lombard site.

What’s not so great...

While the Lombard 55 Card offers an opportunity to save on interest, you will be expected to pay an annual fee. This annual fee is sizeable, especially for a card that is low on features. One other very important thing to be aware of is the card’s standard interest rate. This is high, so you’ll want to make sure you pay off your purchases within the interest free period allotted.

Why should you choose this card?

If you love shopping, and want to save on interest, the Lombard 55 Card could be the card for you. Buying big ticket items is made easy, as you take home what you want today, to then pay it all off over the interest free period. Frequent travellers may also find the card useful, allowing them to book their trips when they want, to pay it off over time.

However, with a card such as this, a certain amount of commitment is required. Considering the card’s standard interest rate, it would not be a good idea to pack the card full of purchases and then not be able to pay them off within the interest free period. Use the card’s tools to create a budget, and ensure each purchase is cleared before interest starts accruing.

Overall Rating

A shopper’s card, the Lombard 55 Card offers up to 55 days interest free on all purchases, with the option of up to 48 months interest free on eligible purchases at participating retailers.

Hi Mark, I believe it is a line of credit rather than a credit card. You use the Visa debit card to access the funds. If you are looking for a 100% credit card you should look elsewhere.
