The BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card with $400 eGift Card

One of the great things about rewards cards is they allow you to earn points on the spending you do everyday. As long as you choose the right rewards card – with a decent earn rate and a rewards program that benefits you – you could enjoy a very rewarding experience indeed.

With two rewards programs to choose between – as well as some very handy platinum extras – the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card could be the rewards card you’ve been searching for. And, with a $400 eGift Card on the table, this card looks even more appealing.

What we love...

Gift Card, you say? Yep, if you sign up for the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card you can get a $400 eGift Card when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in 90 days. You will be sent an email asking you to choose an eGift Card from either JB Hi-Fi, Bunnings Warehouse or Myer within 60 days of meeting minimum spend criteria. Existing St.George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months and Westpac Group staff are not eligible for this offer. If you want to earn Qantas points instead of Amplify see the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card – Qantas

Which brings us to one of the card’s other redeeming features. While most rewards cards lock their cardholders into one type of rewards program, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card allows you to choose between the Amplify Rewards program and the Qantas Rewards program.

On the Amplify program, you could redeem your points for travel on a variety of airlines, using them as frequent flyer miles on programs that include Virgin Australia’s Velocity, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer.

Alternatively, you could redeem your points for gift cards or retail vouchers, homewares or tech. And the earn rate? On the Amplify program, you could earn 1 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases within Australia and overseas.

Opting for the Qantas Rewards program, you could earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent, with the opportunity to earn double points on purchases with Qantas Frequent Flyer Program partners, where you could earn once with your card and once with the program partner.

The points you earn on this program could be redeemed for travel, on flights and upgrades with Qantas or one of its 35 partner airlines, or you could choose from more than 3,000 products, experiences and vouchers in the Qantas Store.

What’s not so great...

It’s worth pointing out that while the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card does offer the choice between two rewards programs, you may find the earn rate on the Qantas program is not quite as high as you’d like. You may have to spend big to enjoy big points.

Also, cardholders should take note of the rates of interest applied to purchases and cash advances on this card, as they are relatively high. Avoid interest payments by clearing the balance month-to-month and saying no to the cash advance feature.

Why should you choose this card?

One reason you may want to choose this card is its overall affordability. Offering you the chance to earn rewards on everyday spending, the card actually has one of the lowest annual fees for a platinum rewards credit card on the market.

For this annual fee, you can enjoy a number of other extras too, such as a 24/7 concierge service, travel insurance on trips up to three months, extended warranty insurance, and one additional cardholder at no extra cost.

Overall Rating

A platinum rewards card with a host of features, a choice of rewards programs and a $400 eGift Card offer – all for a reasonable annual fee.
