The BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card

With very attractive bonus points and with a discounted annual fee in the first year and some appealing platinum extras, the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card could be the rewards card for you.

Point calculations are accurate as of 1 August 2024 but may be subject to change without notice. All routes may have additional taxes and charges. Check on the official BankSA for the updated calculations.

What we love...

New cardholders who are looking to boost their points balance can take advantage of the 100,000 bonus Amplify Points offer (worth up to $450 in eGift cards). To be eligible, you must apply and be approved for a new Amplify Rewards Platinum credit card on or before 30 November 2024 and spend the minimum amount of $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days from card approval (single purchase or multiple transactions).

With the Amplify program, you could earn 1 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases within Australia and overseas and it allows you to redeem your points in a variety of ways. What’s even better is that the points you earn never expire, allowing you to build your balance over time.

You could redeem your points for travel on a variety of airlines, using them as frequent flyer miles on programs that include Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer. You could redeem your points for gift cards or retail vouchers, homewares, or tech. You could even use it for a greater cause and donate to one of their listed charities. How you choose to make use of your points is entirely up to you.

If you want to earn Qantas points instead of Amplify see the BankSA Amplify Platinum Credit Card – Qantas.

To make this bonus offer work for you, make sure that you can afford the minimum spend amount. Most importantly, see to it that you clear your balance in full each month before it starts accruing interest.

Speaking of savings, this card also offers a discounted $49 annual fee in the first year - that’s an additional $75 in savings. After 12 months, the annual fee will revert to $124 which is a reasonable amount considering all the great benefits this card offers.

What’s not so great...

Cardholders should take note of the rates of interest applied to purchases and cash advances on this card, as they are relatively high. Avoid interest payments by clearing the balance month-to-month and saying no to the cash advance feature.

Note as well that you won't be eligible for the bonus points offer if you currently hold or have held an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by BankSA, Bank of Melbourne, or St.George in the last 12 months.

Why should you choose this card?

There are several reasons you may want to choose this card. First- its enticing introductory offers which include the bonus points.

Second- its overall annual fee affordability. This card has a reasonable annual fee for a platinum rewards credit card as compared to other cards on the market. For a $124 ongoing annual fee (after the $49 first year annual fee), cardholders have the chance to earn rewards on everyday spending and enjoy a number of other extras too, such as travel insurance on trips up to three months, extended warranty insurance, and one additional cardholder at no extra cost.

Overall Rating

A platinum rewards card with a host of features, a choice of rewards programs, and great introductory offers – all for a reduced $49 first year annual fee.

Hi Peter, there’s many things that providers look at behind the scenes when you apply, beyond the published eligibility criteria. One of these is the limits of any other credit cards you might have. So if you have a $5,000 credit limit on the Amex, but aren’t using all of it, a new provider won’t see this. They’ll just know you have a $5k limit. This will then factor into your affordability for a new card too.If you’re confident you met all the criteria, you can go to BankSA’s official website, read the fine print and apply for the card.

Hi Anna, I checked this for you and see that complimentary insurances are included with BankSA Amplify Platinum card - international travel insurance, extended warranty, overseas transit accident insurance to name a few. Pandemics, like COVID, are listed as an exclusion. You can check BankSA’s official complimentary insurance PDF for further information on the coverage.

Interested in what is exactly good credit and not applied for multiple credit cards recently? Does this mean in the last 12 months or 24 months?

Hi Sta, good credit is not having any black marks on your credit rating. Also relates to paying bills on time, not been overdrawn on your bank account as examples. Typically I suggest you only apply for 1 credit card every 6 months. So if you have not applied for longer than this.
