The St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card

Do you love your credit card? While some cardholders put up with their card simply because it does the job, others love the various features and extras their card has to offer, saying thank you to their card every time it rewards them with a new travel adventure or some VIP treatment.

Providing some exceedingly pleasant platinum perks, the St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card is a rewards card you could certainly learn to appreciate. With the opportunity to choose between two rewards programs – this is one platinum offering that we think is worth a closer look. If you want to earn Qantas points, click here to see the St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card with Qantas Rewards.

What we love...

As usual, it’s the headline act that gets all the attention. In this case, that’s this card’s bonus Amplify Points offer. Currently, you will receive 100,000 bonus Amplify Points (worth up to $450 in eGift cards) when you apply for a new St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card by 30 June 2022 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval. Plus, an exciting offer for new Kayo Basic or Premium subscribers!

St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card introduces Kayo cashback offer. Approved card applications by 30 June 2022 can enjoy up to $330 cashback - $27.50 paid monthly for 12 months - when you activate a Kayo Basic or Premium subscription within 30 days of card approval. Meanwhile, Kayo One subscription can earn $25 cahback monthly.

As for your everyday earn rate, that will depend on which rewards program you opt for. If you choose the Qantas Rewards program, you could earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases within Australia and overseas, with the opportunity to earn double points on purchases with Qantas Frequent Flyer Program partners.

On the other hand, if you opt for the Amplify Rewards program, you could earn 1 point per $1 spent, to be redeemed on gift cards, retail vouchers, and merchandise, or used on frequent flyer programs.

And points earned on the Qantas program? They can be redeemed within the Qantas Store on more than 3,000 products, experiences and vouchers, or used for flights and upgrades with Qantas or one of its 35 partner airlines.

Whether you opt for the Amplify Rewards program or the Qantas Rewards program, 100,000 is a nice chunk of points to play with. For example, a $50 e-gift card from various merchants including JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Woolworths, David Jones, and many others is worth 11,100 Amplify Points. You can also get your hands on exciting merchandise such as Apple Airpods Pro for 118,525 Amplify Points. Flights are available starting from 29,550 points and hotels from 27,800 points.

As part of St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card’s awesome intro offers, you can also enjoy 0% p.a. for 24 months on balance transfers requested at card application. A one-off 1% balance transfer fee applies and at the end of the intro period, the interest rate reverts to cash advance rate. You can transfer your existing credit card debt, and the long introductory period can help you avoid interest costs and pay off your bills more quickly.

The savings do not stop there. This card also offers a discounted annual fee in the first year. Instead of paying $99, you only pay $29. Yes - that's an additional $70 in savings!

What’s not so great...

In order to get the most out of a credit card, it pays to read the small print. With the St.George Amplify Platinum Credit Card, be aware that balance transfers and cash advances attract a relatively high rate of interest after the promotional period ends, and there is a significant – but not ridiculous – annual fee to cover.

Why should you choose this card?

The main reason for choosing this card is its introductory offers and Amplify Points earn. However, it does have some convenient platinum perks that you might find come in handy along the way.

Get your hands on the long list of insurance covers this card has to offer.

  • International travel insurance for up to 3 months
  • Overseas transit accident insurance
  • Interstate flight inconvenience insurance
  • Rental Vehicle Excess in Australia cover
  • Purchase protection insurance for up to 4 months
  • Extended warranty insurance

Be at ease while using your card as St.George provides more than enough ways to protect you from any frauds through its 24/7 fraud monitoring, Secure Online Shopping Service, and the St.George Fraud Money Back Guarantee.

Enjoy more offers and benefits from My Offers Hub and Visa Offers and Perks. Plus, add one additional cardholder at no extra cost.

Overall Rating

A very appealing rewards card with a good earn rate over two rewards programs, balance transfer offer, and some handy platinum extras - all for a discounted $29 annual fee in the first year.

Is there anywhere I can view all of the linked retailers that the e-gift cards can be used with? Listed site appears to be broken.

Hi Karl, you actually need to login to your Amplify Rewards account (either via their official banking site or via their mobile app) to view all partner retailers. Some of these include David Jones, Myer, Harvey Norman and Bunnings. You’ll also be able to manage and redeem the points earned from there.

Hi Peter, you reached Creditcard.com.au, Australia’s leading credit card comparison and information site. I suggest reaching out to St.George directly at 13 33 30 to check on your account with them.

My husband is the main st George amplify cardholder and I hold the extra card. Am I eligible to apply for the st George amplify platinum cc as the main holder and make my husband the second card holder.

    6 January 2022
Hi Rita, yes this is entirely possible. However, it would be best to check that you meet all the requirements for the new card before applying too. You’ll be responsible for paying for both you and your husband's debt accrued though.

Can we use the points in Amazon on-line purchase?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    22 November 2021
Hi Lourdes, unfortunately you can’t use Amplify Rewards online with Amazon at the point of sale. You can however transfer Amplify Rewards to a number of retailers in exchange for gift cards. Some outlets are Myer, Bunnings, JB Hifi and Harvey Norman. You can also redeem them for flight vouchers or to Velocity or Krisflyer as well as using them to buy retail goods like coffee machines, dashcams and robo-vacs! Hope this has helped

Hi Joseph, 2 interesting no annual fee cards have this offer. Both 0% for 12 months. Have a look at the Virgin No Annual Fee and the Coles No Annual Fee Offers. Hit me back if these do not suit. They are both issued through Citi. Therefore you can not transfer Citi debt.

I have two current credit cards. one actually is a St George vertigo (but not this one) and the other is a ANZ Visa. Both have approx $3000 to be paid off on each. I am most interested in 0% transfer and (with this card travel insurance included. Is it possible to apply for a second card with the same bank and transfer and close the older account? Also can you transfer from two current cards to consolidate?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    16 September 2020
Hi Anthony, a balance transfer must be between different banks. Therefore if you are looking to transfer both St.George and ANZ. Then you need to look outside of both these banks. Have a look at the HSBC Platinum Balance Transfer Offer. It has 0% for 22 months and no balance transfer fee. It can accept both ANZ and St George debt. You can transfer both cards in one balance transfer, subject to credit approval. The card does come with domestic and international travel insurance.

Hi there again, do you reckon st george amplify platinum credit card would offer purchase protection? I am in dilemma in between st george amplify platinum or hsbc platinum qantas :( Looking forwards to your response.

    31 August 2020
Hi Angeline, it doesn't have purchase protection. Though it does have extended warranty insurance on purchases of personal goods charged entirely to your eligible credit card for up to 12 months on the manufacturer's expressed Australian warranty. Both cards have merits. The HSBC Platinum Qantas would be of more interest for Qantas points earning.

Totally a waste of time. Got emails and SMS that I was approved at the end of June, but never receive the card. I called customer centre a couple of times, and they just said I was approved. I even went to their branch 3 weeks ago, they examined my ID and said everything done. Today I made a call to customer centre again, they transferred me through 3 staffs, the first 2 said I was approved plz wait, finally the last staff said my application was closed, for no reason! How can I trust this bank?

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like a poor customer experience. It can be challenging at times with credit card applications. Based on this, I would look at another bank.
