The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card - Qantas

Delivering 60,000 bonus Qantas Points, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card is a handy rewards card that makes it easy for cardholders to earn Qantas Points while enjoying a lovely balance transfers introductory offer, a discounted first-year annual fee, plus a selection of platinum perks. Some of the perks on offer include extended warranty insurance and travel insurance for trips up to three months.

Point calculations are accurate as of 7 November 2023 but may be subject to change without notice. All routes may have additional taxes and charges. Check on the official BankSA page for the updated calculations.

What we love...

First up on our love list is that bonus points offer. With 60,000 Qantas Points, you have the world at your feet – or at least as far as the western coast of North America. For 41,900 Qantas Points, you could fly from Melbourne to Los Angeles or from Sydney to San Francisco. Want to go further? Check out the Qantas site to see how far you could go.

To get your hands on those bonus points, all you need to do is apply and be approved by 31 July 2024, and then spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days. Bear in mind, existing customers who currently hold an Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne, or BankSA, or who have held one in the past 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

Next. The 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 24 months introductory offer. You can take advantage of this long balance transfer offer if you apply and get approved by 31 July 2024. You simply need to request at card application to move your existing balance(s) from up to 3 non-Bank of Melbourne, St.George and BankSA Australian issued credit, charge or store cards. A one-off 1% balance transfer fee applies and the variable cash advance rate will apply after this promotional period.

One of the standout features of the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card is that it earns rewards on the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. Cardholders can earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent capped at $100,000 per year (bonus Qantas Points excluded) at home and overseas while picking up extra points when using the card with Qantas partners. With this, you earn once with the card and once with the program partner.

Earning points on the Qantas program offers cardholders an array of rewards options. From flights and upgrades with Qantas and its airline partners, to gift cards and merchandise from Qantas Store. where you can pick up anything from a Nespresso machine to an iPhone. Want to earn points faster? You can do so, by adding one additional cardholder at no extra cost.

What’s not so great...

While the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card offers a discounted first year annual fee of $99 – especially given the fact that it’s a platinum rewards card – its earn rate is not that awesome. Additionally, as of July 2023, Bank of Melbourne has introduced an annual $75 Qantas Rewards fee if you earn Qantas Points through the Amplify Qantas rewards program.

Big spenders may look to cards with higher annual fees offering a higher earn rate. But, if you want to spend less in annual fees during the first year while earning Qantas Points, this could be the card for you.

It’s also worth noting that this card has a fairly high rate of interest on cash advances and purchases. Like so many other platinum rewards cards, this is a card that you want to clear your balance on month-to-month, so you can make the most of the features and rewards on offer.

Why should you choose this card?

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card could work perfectly for you if you want an affordable Qantas rewards card with some nice features on the side plus, great introductory offers. Keeping it simple, the card has an easy-to-understand earn rate, and a few platinum perks to keep you interested.

The card offers complimentary extended warranty insurance, which extends the standard manufacturer’s warranty on items purchased on the card by up to 12 months. If you purchase travel on the card, you may also benefit from the card’s travel insurance, which provides cover for you, your spouse and your dependent children on trips up to three months.

Overall Rating

An appealing platinum rewards card, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card keeps things fairly simple, offering a decent earn rate and complimentary insurance covers, with a very enticing intro offers of 60,000 bonus Qantas Points and 0% p.a. on balance transfer for 24 months.

Hi Kornel, thank you for your question. The minimum credit limit one can be approved for by Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum credit card is $6,000 and the maximum $80,000. Credit card providers, like Bank of Melbourne will set a credit limit based on their internal eligibility factors, such as yearly income, credit score, payment history to name a few. Banks are known to be quite vague when it comes to these factors.

Hi Austin, thanks for your question. We looked into this and saw that you’ll still be recognised as a ‘new customer’ if you haven’t had any Bank of Melbourne branded credit card. Hope this helps.
