The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card

If you’re thinking about applying for a rewards card but you’re not sure which rewards program would benefit you most, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card could be the card for you.

Giving you the option to earn and redeem points on either the Amplify program or the Qantas program, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card provides a decent earn rate and plenty of platinum perks, alongside a $400 e-gift card offer.

If that sounds like it might be right up your street, read on to find out all the need-to-know on this entirely appealing piece of plastic.

What we love...

Before we get into the nitty gritty on this card, first we need to discuss that $400 e-gift card offer. If you sign up for a Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within first 90 days you'll get $400 e-gift card. You will be sent an email asking you to choose an eGift Card from either Sunglass Hut, Sephora or Uber within 60 days of meeting minimum spend criteria. You must follow redemption instructions for the merchant eGift Card within 90 days of receiving the email. After this point, the code to redeem will expire and you will not be able to redeem the merchant eGift Card. Existing St.George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months and Westpac Group staff are not eligible for this offer. If you want to earn Qantas points, click here to see the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card with Qantas Rewards.

Putting aside the introductory offer, let’s talk about those two rewards programs. If you opt to earn on the Amplify program, you could earn 1 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases within Australia and overseas.

Your points can be redeemed on frequent flyer programs such as Virgin Australia’s Velocity, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programs, or on gift cards, retail vouchers, homewares, travel and more.

If you choose the Qantas program, you could earn 0.5 Qantas points per $1 spent on eligible purchases, to be redeemed for flights and upgrades with Qantas and its 35 partner airlines, or on more than 3,000 products, experiences and vouchers from the Qantas Store.

What’s not so great...

We all know credit cards come with small print attached. When you apply for the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card, you should know that it comes with a fairly hefty purchase rate and cash advance rate.

As for the introductory offer, be sure to check what those points equate to within your rewards program of choice. It’s also worthwhile making sure you actually need to make the required $3,000 spend on eligible purchases within the first 90 days.

Why should you choose this card?

As long as you need to make those purchases, this card – and its $400 e-gift card offer – could be perfect for you. For a reasonable annual fee, you can also benefit from a number of other features as well.

These include complimentary travel insurance and extended warranty insurance, up to 55 days interest free on purchases, 24/7 fraud monitoring, and one free additional cardholder to help you earn points faster.

Overall Rating

A platinum rewards card with a reasonable annual fee, which offers a decent earn rate on a choice of two rewards programs, plus a $400 e-gift card offer.
