What we love...

One of the standout features of the American Express Velocity Business Card is its charge card flexibility. It gives you access to unsecured funding with flexible spending power, allowing your business to make essential purchases without the constraints of a preset credit limit. You simply need to pay the balance in full each month, with up to 51 days interest-free on purchases to help manage cash flow.

If you ever need more time to pay, you can use Amex's Flexible Payment Option (FPO) to spread a portion of your balance over time. When approved, you’ll be assigned an amount available for FPO—similar to a credit limit—subject to the rates and fees specified on your statement.

*With Flexible Payment Option, you will be charged interest if you do not pay your Closing Balance in full by the due date each month. Full terms and conditions are available on the Amex website.

Of course, a major attraction of this card is its rewards potential. With the latest offer, new Card Members can earn 200,000 bonus Velocity Points when they apply by 27 October 2026, are approved, and spend $6,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months of their approval date. Bonus Velocity Points will be credited to your account within 8–10 weeks after meeting the spend requirement. This offer is available to new Card Members only — Card Members who currently hold or have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the past 18 months are ineligible, and the offer cannot be combined with any other advertised or promotional offer.

You’ll earn points on everyday business spending, including 2 Velocity Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia purchases, 1 Velocity Point per $1 on general business spend, and 0.5 Velocity Points per $1 on payments to government bodies such as the ATO. Points transfer directly to your Velocity Frequent Flyer account each month, ready to use on flights, upgrades, and partner rewards.

Given the generous points offer, the $249 annual fee is very competitive for a business rewards card with this level of travel coverage and flexibility.

What’s not so great...

You generally need to pay the charge card balance in full each month. Flexible Payment Option lets you repay an eligible portion over time, up to your FPO limit, with interest applying. Pay at least the amount due on your statement. In addition, each Employee Card attracts a $99 annual fee, which can add up for larger teams.

Program terms apply. Complimentary domestic and international travel insurance, including limited COVID-19 cover, is subject to qualifying travel purchases, eligibility, limits and exclusions.

It also supports MYOB integration for streamlined expense tracking and provides detailed statements to help with budgeting and GST management.
