Want more from your business card? You got it! Simply packed with features, the American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card could provide you with everything you need for your business. From rewards to business tools, complimentary insurance to travel perks, this card has all that and more!

What we love...

American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card comes with an awesome promotion - earn 120,000 bonus Qantas Points when you apply by 7 September 2022 and spend $3,000 on your Card in the first 2 months.

No matter what you choose to use your points for, there’s no denying that with the chunk of points you can play with, it’s a pretty good offer. The 120,000 bonus Qantas Points will be awarded to your Qantas Business Rewards account within 8 to 10 weeks after you have met the spend criteria.

You can use it for any available domestic and international Qantas Flight bookings departing Australia, one-way or return, and is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

On to the everyday earn rate, which we’re pleased to say, doesn’t disappoint. Using your card for a wide range of everyday business purchases, you can easily turn your expenses into rewards. Big rewards. Your earn rate is as follows:

  • 2 Qantas Points per $1 spent on Qantas products and services,
  • Up to 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent on everyday purchases
  • 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on utilities, insurance (with the exception of American Express), and government bodies
  • Triple Qantas Points for business on eligible flights.

But of course, this is more than just a rewards card. It also offers a dizzying array of usable extras. As a cardholder, you will receive two domestic Qantas Club lounge passes per year, once your business makes an eligible Qantas purchase on your card during that year.

You’ll also receive complimentary Qantas Business Rewards membership, offering you a saving of $89.50, while providing your business access to savings of 10% on the base fare of eligible Qantas flights, 20% off Qantas Club membership and more.

With Qantas Business Rewards membership, you will also have the flexibility to transfer your Qantas Points to any Qantas Frequent Flyer account. This could allow you to offset business travel costs, or alternatively, reward yourself, your staff or your family with flights, upgrades or products from the Qantas Store.

What’s not so great...

As a business rewards card, the American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card doesn’t give us much to complain about. There is a significant standard annual fee, but you do get plenty in return. You may also find the annual fee is tax deductible, as long as the card is used solely for business purposes.

Why should you choose this card?

In order to work out whether this card is right for you, it’s important to understand the fundamentals behind how the card works. It’s actually not a standard credit card – it’s a charge card with no pre-set credit limit and no interest charges.

All you need to do to use the card is make sure the balance is paid off in full each month. It’s also worth noting that you can have up to 99 Employee Cards on one account.

If that sounds like it’s what your business needs, let’s take a closer look at some of the other features on offer.

Know you're covered both domestically and internationally with complimentrary Travel Insurance for you, your spouse and your dependent children (25 years of age or younger) as well as all your Employee Qantas Business Rewards Card Members when you book and pay for your return trip with your Qantas Business Rewards Card. Travel Inconvenience Cover, Public Transport Accident Cover, and Trip Cancellation and Amendment Cover are also provided.

AccessLine from American Express allows business owners to make domestic and international payments including to Merchants who don't accept Card payments. Additionally, Card Members can earn Qantas Points on all AccessLine payments. A Trade Service Fee of 2.15% applies.

The card also provides up to 51 days interest free on purchases, emergency card replacement and global customer service, plus transaction data feeds to MYOB accounting software, and the ability to download statements and transaction details, view balances and keep track of business expenditure using Quicken, MYOB or Microsoft Excel.

Hello, I am looking at applying for the American Express Business Card and have a few questions. I believe I meet the criteria but am i able to make personal purchases on this card also? I also don't have a qantas frequent flyer membership but my husband does in his name is it possible to link the card to this account despite it being in a different name to myself? thanks.

Hi Melanie! Awesome question - I would say that the point of a business credit card is to keep it separate from your personal spending. There’s nothing stopping you from doing it, but you’d have to keep a record of what you buy and deduct it from your statements. It can get messy at tax time! As for linking your Qantas FF account, it likely has to be in the same name, but you can create an account for free when you apply for the card or via Woolworths and transfer points between your accounts easily. Good luck!

I have an ABN and I am registered for GST with a business income over $75k. My last return showed this but I had an offset from buying a vehicle for business purposes. Am I eligible for this card if the result of the offset reduces my taxable income to below the $75k limit bearing in mind that it is still compulsory for me to be GST registered based on business activity statements?

Hi Ian, looks like you might be golden! The Amex Qantas Business Card says to be eligible you need to have an annual business revenue of $75,000 or more. Typically, lenders calculate any income before tax, not after, when assessing your suitability for a card, so offsetting with your car payments shouldn’t matter. If you click the ‘Go to Offer’ button, you’ll be redirected to the Amex site with the card’s eligibility criteria listed at the bottom. Good luck!

Is the Qantas American Express business card only for business holders? Can I get this credit card if it will not be used towards a business? Thank you in advance
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    19 July 2022
Hi Caitlin, that’s a great question! To apply for the American Express Qantas Business credit card, you will need a valid ABN and make sure your business is registered for GST. You’ll also need to meet all the other requirements too. If you’re confident you’re still eligible for the card, you can apply.

Hi Catherine, I checked on American Express Qantas Business Rewards card’s terms and it actually states that the offer is only available to new Amex card members. That those who currently have or have held any other American Express card products in the last 18 months are not eligible. You can check our comparison tool of the different business credit cards we’re currently partnered with to view other options.

What Minimum income of $75,000 p.a. means ? Its the revenue of my business or my personal income ? For example I have a small business on the side of my main job, can i apply ?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    19 July 2022
Hi Nicolas, this will be your total serviceable income that you can prove to the bank. If you have a small business you might need to provide business activity statements or the details of your accountant also. This is so that the provider can verify your income before extending you a line of credit. Hope that has helped!

“Hi Matt, that’s a good question! A credit card lets you carry a balance from month to month, while a charge card requires you to pay off the entire balance in full each month” AND IF YOU DON’T or CAN’T pay your balance what would happen?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    27 June 2022
Hi Jack, thanks for your question. If you technically can’t pay your balance, you should reach out to your provider as soon as possible. The majority of providers have a hardship department and you’ll need to speak to them. If you choose not to pay your balance, then you’ll start accruing late fees, your rewards points might be invalidated, you might receive an “in default” notice and if you let it go too far you’ll be dealing with debt collectors.
