Digging Deeper

With the basics covered, it’s time to dig a little deeper into what’s on offer with the Citi Prestige Credit Card, so you can decide whether this card is right for you.

This Card: As a Rewards Card

An excellent choice for anyone looking to earn big on their credit card spending, this card has a fantastic earn rate, and no Points cap in place. That means you can earn as many Points as you want each month. You can also earn Points faster, with up to four additional cardholders at no extra cost.

  • Earn 3 Points per $1 spent on eligible international purchases.
  • Earn 3 Points per $1 spent on selected domestic purchases made and booked directly from a range of major: restaurants, hotel chains and airlines (flights only).
  • Earn 2 Points per $1 spent on selected domestic purchases made at major: supermarkets, petrol outlets, and national retailers.
  • Earn 1 Point per $1 on other eligible domestic purchases.

You may have noticed that the highest advertised earn rate favours international spending and travel-related purchases. This is great, as long as you have a considerable overseas spend and you travel extensively. However, it is worth noting that the card attracts a 3.4% foreign transaction fee, which may affect the Points-earning potential on international spending.

What about those 250,000 bonus Citi reward Points? To be eligible you must apply online and spend $10,000 in the first 90 days from account approval. Your bonus Citi reward Points will be credited within six to eight weeks of meeting the spend criteria.

When it comes to redeeming your bonus Points and the Points you earn, you have a number of options available to you.

  • Redeem Points in the Citi Rewards Store for digital gift cards, flights, merchandise and more.
  • Transfer Points to other frequent flyer programs, including Emirates Skywards, Velocity Frequent Flyer and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.
  • Opt for Pay with Points, where you use your points to pay for something and then receive a statement credit.

This Card: As a Travel Rewards Card

With a focus on rewards point earning on international spending and travel purchases, this is a card that rewards the frequent traveller. For that reason, it’s no surprise that the Citi Prestige Credit Card also focuses its features on extras that benefit the frequent traveller as well.

Airport Transfers

No more worrying about the taxi arriving on time or the Uber having enough boot space for your suitcase, with the card’s Luxury Airport Transfer Service, you can arrive at the airport in style. As a cardholder, you can enjoy one complimentary one-way transfer to or from selected Cities in Australia up to $100.

Bear in mind, Luxury Airport Transfer will transport up to 6-7 passengers with 6 suitcases and 4 small bags. Any excess charges beyond the complimentary allowance will be advised to the cardholder upon confirmation of the booking.

Airport Lounge Access

One complimentary digital Priority Pass™ Membership, with unlimited lounge visits, for the primary cardholder is a Special Feature of the Citi Prestige Card. Citi Prestige Credit Cardholders must enrol for the Priority Pass Standard Membership at www.prioritypass.com/prestigeaumc by 31 December 2023. The primary cardholder may bring one guest for free per visit. Any additional guests will be charged directly by the lounge. You will need to download the Priority Pass™ App via the Apple App Store or get it on the Google Play Store to access your Digital Membership Card. The membership is subject to the Priority Pass™ Conditions of Use. Please note that within Australia, Priority Pass is available at select airports. For the full list of up to date airport lounges and Priority Pass™ Conditions of Use please refer to www.prioritypass.com along with the Citi Prestige Credit Card Benefit Terms and Conditions for further information.

With complimentary Priority Pass access, this card also makes long airport stays and layovers all the more comfortable, with unlimited airport lounge access for you and a guest. As a cardholder, you will benefit from Priority Pass membership, which not only gives you unlimited lounge benefits, it also provides extra perks such as discounts at airport restaurants.

Stay for Free

Get your fourth night free when you book 4 consecutive nights at a huge range of hotels in Australia.

This Card: Extras on Offer

Anything else? Of course, when you pay $700 each year in annual fees, you expect a little more from your credit card. Fortunately, Citi understands this, and offers a selection of additional features to keep even the most discerning cardholder happy.

Personal Concierge

Like most prestige credit cards, the Citi Prestige Credit Card offers a personal concierge service. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Citi concierge service can assist cardholders with everything from booking flights and hotel accommodation, to making restaurant reservations and offering recommendations on where to go and what to do, no matter where they are in the world.

My Cashback

My Cashback is a no-fuss, hassle-free rewards program of Citi which allows cardholders to automatically receive monthly cashback on their purchases when they use their Citi Clear Card to shop from their favorite brands. Access the program in the Citi Mobile® App and check some personalised offers.

Citi PayAll

You can take advantage of the Citi PayAll feature which lets you schedule recurring payments for your rent, education fees, childcare, taxes, bills, and more. Effective 1 November 2023, the Citi PayAll fee changed to 0.95% of the amount being paid.

Complimentary Insurance

Again, similar to other prestige credit card offerings, the Citi Prestige Credit Card provides cardholders with some added peace of mind, in the form of complimentary insurance cover. When flights are purchased with the Citi Prestige Card, cardholders can benefit from protection when travelling with:

  • International Travel Insurance
  • Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance
  • Transit Accident Insurance

And when using their card to make a purchase, cardholders have cover in the form of:

  • Purchase Cover Insurance
  • Guaranteed Pricing Scheme
  • Extended Warranty Insurance

* Note: as of 16 October 2023, the Linked Diners Club card is no longer available with Citi.

This Card: The Essentials

Now we’ve gone over all the fun stuff, it’s time to get into the not-so-fun stuff. To be eligible to apply for this card, you must be 18 years or older and an Australian resident. Also know that the card has a minimum credit limit of $20,000 and a maximum credit limit of $100,000.

As for the card’s annual fee, this is significant. You will pay $700 per year in annual fees, but, it is worth thinking about all the extras you get for that payout. If you are a big spender, you may easily get that value back in rewards, plus, you can enjoy the vast range of features the card has to offer.

However, to make it all worthwhile, you will need to pay off your balance in full before interest starts accruing. With a high standard purchase rate, this card will make all those rewards, features and extras null and void if you carry a balance month-to-month.

Decision Time

With so much on offer, the Citi Prestige Credit Card is a very appealing card indeed. Big spenders can earn big on rewards, with 250,000 bonus Citi reward Points making the deal even sweeter. And, if you like a little extra from your credit card, this Citi offering has more features and perks than you’ll know what to do with, including airport lounge access and transfers, hotel stays and plenty of lifestyle extras.

Disgruntled Citi Prestige User

16 December 2022

This card has decent benefits but let's be real, you might not use all of them. For an exorbitant annual fee of $350 first year and $700 subsequent years, supposedly catering to prestigious members, their customer service is atrocious. There's no dedicated call number for their call center, you have to call the generic number and wait forever like all other card users (I have their Citi Rewards card as well). Their Citi Prestige Concierge phone number on their booklets and online is wrong - doesn't work when you call them. Had to waste 40 minutes searching high and low and calling their general number 3x to speak to someone from the concierge team. Honestly, no real "prestige" like its namesake - use this card only if you are after some travel-related rewards like Priority Pass.

The rewards program is great I recently spent 12k aud in New Zealand which earned 72000 points I converted 75000 points at the divide by 1.5 ratio into into kris flyer 50000 miles which I can use for air New Zealand or virgin rewards it costs 35000 miles to fly return business class Sydney to Auckland. Now the bad news despite paying 700 per year you still get answered by those super friendly offshore call centres that look after the people with student Visa cards Citibank should have this type of client talking to on shore people same as st George do

Hello. Your website advertises the Citi prestige card to have a 300,000 points bonus if you apply by Oct 2023. Do you have the terms and conditions for this as I would like to apply for this deal although the Citi website has now dropped its reward points to 275,000. If you have a proof of the 300,000 by Oct 2023 that you could provide me that would be much appreciated. Kind regards Jaz

Hi Jaz, we apologise for your confusion. Unfortunately, the 300,000 points offer expired on the 31st of May. As now advertised on the Citi website, the offer is now 275,000 bonus points when you apply by the 25 October 2023 and spend $10,000 in the first 90 days from your account being approved.

Do you know what the minimum credit score requirement is for the Citi Prestige card?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    6 February 2023
Hi Paul, your credit score is just one of the factors that go into a provider's assessment of you for a credit card. This is a top tier credit card and with an estimated minimum income requirement for the Citi Prestige card has been stated as $150,000, you’ll want your score to be at least in the “excellent” territory. There’s a whole other range of eligibility criteria for this card also. Hope that helped!
