The Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card

Want some seriously good rewards from a seriously good rewards card? Look no further than the Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card. This little beauty is jam-packed with extras, alongside a pretty decent reward point earn rate. But that’s not all. If you love yourself some lovely introductory offers, this card is most definitely for you.

Let’s run through the intro offer quickly. You could start off with a whopping 150,000 bonus Qantas points on sign-up is 100,000 Qantas points when you spend $5,000 within 90 days of card approval. Plus get another 50,000 bonus Qantas frequent flyer points on payment of second year annual fee. Then you pay $0 annual card fee in the first year (normally $395), with an annual $49 fee for the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program. This brings the total annual fee up to $444 p.a. Lastly, you get 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 15 months with no balance transfer fee.

Love it as much as we do? Let’s have a closer look.

What we love…

Seriously, how could you go past 150,000 bonus Qantas points? As long as you plan on spending at least $5,000 on your card in the first 90 days and pay the second year annual fee, this is a truly incredible offer. Need some perspective? 56,000 Qantas points would buy you one return ticket from Sydney to Hong Kong, or from Melbourne to Singapore.

Fancy an upgrade? If you want to use those points to make your journey slightly more pleasurable, you could use them to upgrade your flight. You could upgrade from Flexible Economy to Business Class from Sydney to Los Angeles for 45,000 points one way, or from Sydney to Singapore for 25,000 one way.

Perhaps you’d prefer something from the Qantas Store? Packed with goodies, the Qantas Store has plenty of awesome items around the 50,000 point mark. How about a KitchenAid Diamond Blender, Sennheiser Headphones, a Samsonite luggage, a Fitbit Blaze, or a Beats PILL 2.0 Rechargeable Bluetooth Speaker?

Next up the rewards earn rate. Using the card, you can earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 for all eligible International Spend, 1 Qantas Point per $1 for selected domestic purchases made and booked directly from a range of major: restaurants and restaurant chains, hotel chains and airlines (flights only). You will also earn 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 for selected domestic purchases made at major: petrol outlets, supermarkets and national retailers, and then 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent everywhere else on domestic Eligible Transactions (up to $20,000 per Statement Period).

Now, we’ll talk about all those amazing extras on offer. As a cardholder, you get – wait for it – two airport lounge visits per year, complimentary Priority Pass Membership, 24/7 personal concierge service, interstate and international insurances, and a free bottle of award-winning wine every time you dine at a participating partner restaurant in the Citibank Dining Program. T&Cs apply

On then to the annual fee. Yes, you get all that goodness for just $49 in the first year. Thereafter the annual fee is $444 p.a.

What’s not so great…

This is a premium rewards card, and as such, you need know what to expect if you want to get your money’s worth. For all those lovely extras and offers, you need to offer something back. To be considered for this card, you will need to earn at least $75,000 per year. Bear in mind, there is also a minimum credit limit of $15,000 and a maximum credit limit of $100,000.

At $444, the standard annual fee is pretty expensive. But, if you are using the card enough to make it worth your while in rewards and features, then you might not mind paying that annual fee. Be aware that the card also has a pretty high purchase rate and cash advance rate. So, if you want to make the most of what you get, you need to pay off the balance in full each month.

Why should you choose this card?

If you want a rewards card with a fantastic bonus points offer and a great reward point earn rate, this could be a winner. Alongside the bushel of extras already mentioned, you can also enjoy up to 55 days interest free, plus 0% on balance transfers for 15 months (no balance transfer fee applies). Pay heed though, if you transfer a balance, try to pay it off within 15 months, as it reverts to the cash advance rate after the intro period ends. Remember that you get no interest free days on retail purchases while you have a balance transfer.

Overall Rating

Truly rewarding rewards card with heaps of extras and an awesome bonus points offer. Totally worth it for the $49 you pay in standard fees in the first year.

Hi Sonja, Qantas points reside within the Qantas frequent flyer program. Therefore when you change card you simply provide your QFF number and the points will go in there. This means a yes to transferring over but just make sure that ANZ have transferred all the points that you have earnt before you close the account.

In the information on Citi Signature card, it says: 'Earn 1 Qantas point per $1 spent (up to $3,000) and then 0.5 thereafter (capped to $10,000 per statement period)' Should the first part of the sentence also say 'per statement period'? In other words, is the 'up to $3000' per statement period or annual? Thanks.
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    15 December 2016
Hi Rob, you earn 1 point for $ spend up to 3k per statement period. After that the points earning drops to 0.5. Bottom line, if you are going to spend more than $3,000 per statement period, then it may be best to choose another card that has a higher cap.

Hi Katherine, with this offer, Citi charge an extra $49 fee on top of the standard annual fee. This is non-optional with the product. Therefore the annual fee in the first year it is $99 + $49 = $148, 2nd year on-wards (if you continue with the card) $395 + $49 = $444.

Do your quanta points expire in a certain time period?

Your Qantas Points will not expire as long as you earn or use Qantas Points (excluding family transfers or the conversion of points from Aquire) through your Frequent Flyer account at least once every 18 months. This includes earning or using Qantas Points with our program partners.

Can I transfer my ANZ visa Qantas points to this card? Thanks

Thanks.

    15 December 2016
Hi Rob, you earn 1 point for $ spend up to 3k per statement period. After that the points earning drops to 0.5. Bottom line, if you are going to spend more than $3,000 per statement period, then it may be best to choose another card that has a higher cap.

Can you please let me know if you need to pay for qantas registration?

    13 September 2016
Hi Katherine, with this offer, Citi charge an extra $49 fee on top of the standard annual fee. This is non-optional with the product. Therefore the annual fee in the first year it is $99 + $49 = $148, 2nd year on-wards (if you continue with the card) $395 + $49 = $444.

Hello, I am already qantas ff member. Do I still need to pay the qantas frequent flyer membership fee of $49 or will this be waived and only the $99 credit card fee applies?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    1 August 2016
Hi Annika, this $49 fee is on top of any Qantas fee and directly charged by Citi themselves. Therefore you need to add the $49 always onto the annual fee. Best of luck with your application.
