The BankSA Vertigo Credit Card

If thriftiness is your thing, the BankSA Vertigo Credit Card may just be the credit card you’ve been searching for. Even if thriftiness is not your thing, but you think it should be, this card could set you on the path to a frugality you enjoy so much you never want to leave it behind.

Or perhaps not, who knows?

All we know is this card has some serious money-saving capability, allowing you to save on everyday purchases with a low ongoing purchase rate, on existing credit card debt with a fantastic 28-month 0.99% p.a. balance transfer offer.

Sounds like it might ring your bell? Let’s dig a little deeper.

What we love...

Before we go on to talk about anything else, we really need to look more closely at that amazing balance transfer offer. With the BankSA Vertigo Credit Card, you can transfer balances from your existing credit cards to pay 0.99% p.a. interest for 28 months with no balance transfer fee.

Potentially saving you a significant amount of money in interest, the card lets you pay off more of your actual debt, which should allow you to get it down to zero that much faster.

In terms of its other money-saving capabilities, the BankSA Vertigo Credit Card is charging an annual fee of $55 which is fairly reasonable, especially when compared to certain other cards on the market.

On top of that, the card has a low minimum credit limit and a low ongoing purchase rate, which is important if you don’t always clear your balance month to month.

What’s not so great...

To ensure you make the most of this card, you need to know the essentials. If you choose to take advantage of the 0.99% balance transfer offer, you may not be able to transfer a balance from a St.George, Bank of Melbourne, or Westpac credit card.

You may only be able to transfer a balance up to 80% of your approved credit limit. Also, take note that any unpaid balance transfer reverts to the cash advance rate at the end of the introductory period.

Why should you choose this card?

If you’re looking for a money-saving credit card that allows you to pay off existing credit card debt while still saving money on other stuff like purchases and annual fees, the BankSA Vertigo Credit Card may indeed be the card for you.

Any other features to consider? As a cardholder, you can benefit from up to 55 days interest free on purchases, one free additional cardholder, the convenience of Visa PayWave, and the security of 24/7 fraud monitoring.

Overall Rating

A low rate credit card with handy features and a great 0.99% balance transfer deal offered over 28 months. Offer ends 30 November 2024. New cards only.

Hi Michelle, we can’t make any assessments on your credit worthiness, that is left up BankSA. We’ve written a piece that delves deeper into this topic, if you’d like to learn more about credit cards for pensioners. We dive into their requirements and things like minimum income. We hope it helps!

Hi Ryan, this is a great idea. Having a good credit file allows you to navigate issues when different card providers have different eligibility criteria. We have written an article about how to build your credit score and I suggest checking it for tips and help. Best of luck on your journey to building your credit.

What is the minimum income I have to have in order to apply for this Credit Card...?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    2 August 2021
Hi Pavel, thank you for your question! We looked into this and note that BankSA has not published the minimum income information. As a general rule, as long as you have a regular income, and can pay the minimum repayment amount (2% of the balance or $10, whichever is greater) and meet the other eligibility requirements, you can proceed with the application!

Hi Betty, you cannot transfer loan debt to a BankSA credit card. Providers that do allow you to balance transfer personal loan debt include Citibank, Coles, Virgin Money and Qantas Money. I hope that helps.

I got approved for $6000 with $4000 paying off a balance transfer with another bank for your vertigo credit card. Do I still get the 7 months 0% on new purchases with the remaining $2000?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

Hi, I have just been approved $4000 for balance transfer offer with Bank of Melbourne to cover my $7400 CC debt with Westpac but will need another $3000 can I also apply for a balance transfer with BankSA or St. George to cover my remaining Westpac debt? or would I have to look for another bank?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    10 February 2020
Hi Tom, you could apply with them. Though as they just assigned you a 4k limit. They might then decline your next application. The good news is, at least you have a got a good chunk into 0% interest. Focus on paying off whatever is the highest first. You can try to apply for another balance transfer for the remaining 3-4k. Though if you are declined then do not apply again for at least 6 months. I suggest the ANZ Low Rate - request a 4k limit. Though you still could have a go with BankSA or St.George. Though I think more risky for approval.

Hi there. I'm just wondering what happens when you want to transfer an existing balance to a new credit card? Is it all done at the application process or once approved for an amount does the individual transfer the amount themselves? I've just never done a balance transfer before so I'm unsure how exactly it works. Thanks.
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    15 November 2019
Hi Chanara, once approved for your new balance transfer card. The new bank will make a payment on your behalf soon after card activation. Its an automated process that you are not involved in at that stage.

Hi. Can you balance transfer a personal loan on a Vertigo Credit card?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    30 September 2019
Hi Shan, you cannot transfer loans to Vertigo balance transfer offers. Citi are the only issuer that will accept loans (non-Citi). There are a range of brands that have their cards issued through Citi. This Virgin offer ends today but can take loans and has no balance transfer fee and low annual fee.

I have an exsisting Verito card. Can i transfer from other non sabank card i.e. gem visa for the 0% 16 month transfer deal.
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    18 February 2019
Hi Barbara, this balance transfer offer is available only at the time of application. As a current customer you do not have access to do another 16 month balance transfer. You can though look to apply for a balance transfer with another bank to take your GEM visa debt. Have a look at the ANZ low rate.

Am I eligible if I am on a working holiday visa?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    15 December 2017
Hi Georgia, I don't think you can get approved on a working holiday visa. You would need more of a long stay Visa. With St George Group (inc Bank SA), you have to have a valid visa with at least two years before the expiration date.

    22 August 2017
Hi Daniel, your approval will depend on your previous AU credit history and a range of other factors such as income v expenses. Also banks will push for AU addresses. In the end, welcome back to Australia. Once you are settled in then let me know what type of card you are looking for and I can offer some suggestions. A balance transfer is only good for transferring Australian credit card debt so this is likely to not be relevant to you.
