Community First n0w Credit Card
The n0w Credit Card from Community First is the latest entrant into the interest-free credit card space. This card works in a similar way to Buy n0w Pay Later products such as Afterpay and Zip, letting you spend up to a certain limit and repay what you spend with no interest.
You can opt for your choice of three credit limits, each with a different monthly fee:
- $1,000 limit for a $9 monthly fee
- $2,000 limit for a $14 monthly fee
- $3,000 limit for a $19 monthly fee
The card will be useful to anyone who needs a simple card to spend and doesn’t want to pay interest. A handy feature of this card is you won’t be charged interest on cash advances either, which is novel for a credit card. If you use the card to get cash out you will just pay a $3 fee.
You can also spend using your phone by adding the n0w card to Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
Why should you choose this card?
No interest on spending
You won’t pay interest on any spending you do in Australia with the card, including spending in-store, online or with cash advances. This makes it a useful card for everyday spending or for larger purchases, even if you need to pay in cash. Keep in mind there is a 3% fee for spending in foreign currencies.
Simple repayments
There is no late fee charged with this card; just repay 2.5% of what you spend or $20.
Build your credit
Managing your payments on this card well can help boost your credit score because credit card payments are required to be recorded on your credit report. This works differently to BNPL, where your payments don’t have to be recorded and therefore can’t help your score.
Mobile wallet and app
You can add your n0w card to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay and enjoy easy spending with your mobile phone. You can also manage your account, track your spending and view your balance with the Community First mobile app.
What’s not so great...
The $1,000 credit limit comes with a low monthly fee of $9, which is comparable to other interest-free credit cards on the market. However the $14 and $19 monthly fees for the higher credit limits isn’t as competitive.
The n0w card also charges you for overseas spending, which competitors such as the Westpac Flex Card do not. You also do not get access to any rewards programs.
Our verdict
The Community First n0w Credit Card is a good option to consider for anyone who wants ongoing access to credit and easy spending. If you want the option to get cash out from your credit card, this is a great option because you aren’t charged interest for cash advances.
However, the card’s monthly fees aren’t competitive for the higher credit limits. You also don’t get the same rewards offered by other interest-free credit cards such as the Westpac Flex Card.
