Bank of Melbourne (part of the St George Group)

Bank of Melbourne is the new face of St.George Bank in Victoria. It represents all of the quality and service of St.George simply with new branding - focused on serving Victoria with a premium banking service. As a relatively new bank it features products based largely on St George's products but with newer offers.

About Bank of Melbourne Credit Cards

Bank of Melbourne products are available nationwide and can be serviced at St.George branches outside Victoria, BankSA branches in South Australia, and of course online. Credit cards can be used wherever they are accepted, and all payment and transaction management can be done through internet banking. You don’t need to live in Victoria to take advantage of the great introductory offers.

History

A subsidiary of Westpac (along with St.George and BankSA), Bank of Melbourne has existed as a brand since 1989. It remained independent until 1997, when Westpac acquired it. The brand was relaunched in 2011 with a focus on serving Victorians.

Bank of Melbourne aims to be as popular and customer-focused in Victoria as St.George has been in New South Wales. Westpac believes a local focus in each state is key—hence the dedicated brands for NSW, Victoria, and SA, alongside Westpac’s broader national coverage.

Credit cards

Providing excellent banking products and services, plus customer service that truly puts the customer first, Bank of Melbourne is on your side when it comes to credit cards. Backed by the Westpac Group, Bank of Melbourne offers a range of affordable credit cards to suit different needs.

If you’re looking for a no-frills credit card with great rates, consider the Bank of Melbourne Vertigo card. For rewards, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Visa lets you earn points through either the Amplify Rewards program or Amplify Qantas.

Hi Boopathiraj, quite a lineup of credit card features you’ve got there. It’s hard to pin down one card that has each of those features as they’re all a specific type of card. You could start by comparing a range of rewards credit cards,no annual fee credit card offers and no foreign transaction fee credit cards and try to see if any cards in the category overlap. You can then read our reviews to learn more about each card and whether it ticks your boxes. Hope this has helped!

Are there any cards that allow a guarantor? You have an article that describes this as a possibility but no links to cards that do.

Hi Yvette, banks change conditions all the time. Why do you need a guarantor for a credit card? If you have bad credit, it will not be possible to get approved. Let me know more details around why you are looking to get a guarantor and what your current income / credit is like.

Is it possible to apply for a low rate credit card without doing a balance transfer?

    13 September 2016
Hi Elizabeth, yes it is. A balance transfer offer is always optional and never a compulsory part to apply or be approved. Actually not having a balance transfer may even improve your chances of approval.

I would like to come in to speak to someone about a credit card with balance transfer and a separate personal loan so I can consolidate some debt.

Hi Anthony, for transferring loan debt you need to look at the Citi credit card range. Citi are the only issuer that accept non-Citi personal loans as well as credit cards. Have a look at the Citi Rewards Platinum offer and best of luck with your application.

Hi Sue - we are an online service and typically don't speak to people over the phone. Let me know what your question(s) are and I will get back to you as soon as I can with the best answer I can give. Let me know the amount you want to balance transfer and the bank or banks the debt is currently with. Then I can provide you with a few options.
