If you’re thinking about applying for a rewards card but you’re not sure which rewards program would benefit you most, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card could be the card for you.
You get up to 100,000 bonus Amplify points when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days (75,000 bonus points) and after your first eligible purchase in year 2, with your account open for more than 12 months (25,000 bonus points). The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card gives you the option to earn and redeem points on either the Amplify program or the Qantas program, and provides a decent earn rate and plenty of platinum perks.

What we love...
First up is the discounted annual fee. New cardholders pay a $99 card fee in the first year, or $49 for existing Bank of Melbourne customers who sign in to apply. The ongoing card fee is $175 p.a. A separate $75 annual Amplify Rewards Program fee also applies.
Now, let’s talk about those two rewards programs. If you opt to earn on the Amplify program, you could earn 2 points per $1 on international spend, 1.25 points per $1 on everyday spend (supermarkets, petrol, dining, utilities, and department stores), and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases. After $5,000 spend in a statement cycle, the rate drops to 0.5 points per $1.
If you prefer to earn Qantas points, you can choose the Qantas Program and earn 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 on international spend, 0.5 per $1 on everyday spend, and 0.33 per $1 on all other eligible purchases; after $5,000 spend in a statement cycle, further eligible purchases earn 0.2 Qantas Points per $1.
Your points can be redeemed on frequent flyer programs such as Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programs, or on gift cards, retail vouchers, homewares, travel, and more. The bank currently gives an example of approximately 29,412 Amplify Points for up to $100 in e-gift cards. Redemption rates and availability can change. Bagging up to 100,000 bonus Amplify points will surely give you more flexibility in how you use your points.

We all know credit cards come with small print attached. When you apply for the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Card, you should know that it comes with a fairly hefty ongoing cash advance rate.
Also, just note that you won't be eligible for the bonus points offer if you currently hold or have held an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by Bank of Melbourne, St.George or BankSA in the last 24 months.
