SCU is a credit union with strong community ties and a range of products and services to meet personal and business banking needs.
SCU offers a low rate Visa credit card, which comes with a comparatively low interest rate but does not have any additional features and a rewards program attached. It does have the ability to balance transfer to it fee-free, and approvals for the credit cards can be made within 48 hours.
The SCU credit card also received a Blue Ribbon reward from Smart Investor in 2011.
One interesting fact about SCU is that it merged with a Ukrainian credit union, called the Karpaty Foundation, in January 2010. You can view more about the Karpaty Foundation on the SCU website.
SCU was established in 1963 and the directors then wanted to start a company to protect and promote the financial wellbeing of employees of the City of Sydney Council. Borrowing funds from the banks was restrictive according to them, so they resolved to offer SCU members a new and competitive solution.
In the beginning only personal loans or lending and basic call savings were available with SCU, but today the all personal retail banking services are available to members.
