The Heritage Bank Platinum Credit Card

The Heritage Bank Platinum credit card comes with Heritage Credits, you earn 3 credits for every $1,500 you spend on the card each month. When you use the card and you don’t have an existing balance from the previous month you also get 55 days interest free to pay off the purchases you make.

This card has a very reasonable annual fee for a rewards card, $125 per year, and you will also have access to the Visa Entertainment program.

What we love...

The Heritage Bank Platinum credit card has everything you would expect from platinum card. You benefit from complimentary insurance covers for travel overseas and in Australia, purchases, extended warranties, and more. Access to a concierge service which comes in handy if you need to book tickets to a show, holidays or even a restaurant recommendation.

What’s not so great...

The earn rate is low with 3 Heritage Credits for every $1,500 you spend on the card each month. For example a Coles $50 eGift card is valued at 32 Credits as at 8 August 2018. That means you would have to spend $16,000 on your card to receive the 32 Credits.

Overall Rating

Platinum credit card with a reasonable annual fee, insurance covers and 0% balance transfer rate for 12 months.

Hi Dorothy, I am not aware of any complimentary travel insurance with credit cards for those over 80 years of age. Reach out to Heritage bank credit card customer service and see what they can offer. It is more likely that you will need to get independent insurance but again I am not sure what is available for over 85s.

Hi Catherine, an option may be to draw some funds from the home loan on your property. You can then use these funds to pay for the renovations, then pay the mortgage in full once the property is sold. You can also get a credit card to cover the payments. It could be possible to apply for this Heritage Bank card but it might be better to get a 0% intro rate on purchases. This NAB Premium Card has 0% for 15 months on purchases. That means that you would not have to pay interest on the painting etc. Its likely the property would sell before the 15 months is up.
