The Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card

Currently offering a pretty sweet balance transfer deal, the Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card allows both new and existing cardholders to transfer a balance onto their card to benefit from 0% p.a. for six months. Ongoing, the card has a low purchase rate and a low annual fee, with up to 55 days interest free on purchases, and compatibility with Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay.

What we love...

One of the things all cardholders should pay attention to when comparing balance transfer offers is the rate their balance will revert to if it remains unpaid at the end of the introductory period. With some balance transfer cards, that balance will start accruing interest at the card’s high purchase rate or even higher cash advance rate. This can obviously make the balance harder to clear as interest starts stacking up.

However, if you choose a low rate card such as the Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card, not only can you benefit from significant savings with a 0% p.a. balance transfer offer over six months, you can also rest a bit easier knowing that unpaid balances revert to the card’s very low purchase rate. While you should still try your hardest to clear your balance within the intro period, it’s nice to know that if you don’t manage to pay it all off, it won’t revert to a super high rate.

Another nice feature on this balance transfer offer is the fact that it’s not just available to new cardholders. Balance transfer deals are often used to attract new customers, so they are not offered to current cardholders. But, the offer on the Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card is available at any time for new or existing accounts, and there is no balance transfer fee to pay either.

Aside from its offer, the card has a low rate on both purchases and cash advances. The card also charges no cash advance fee, but bear in mind a fee may be charged by the ATM operator. It’s also worth remembering that unlike purchases, which can benefit from up to 55 days interest free, there are no interest free days on cash advances, so interest will start accruing from day one.

Other ongoing costs to take into account include the card’s annual fee. This is nice and low, helping cardholders to keep costs down. If you have a linked Home Loan Package with Credit Union SA, this annual fee will be waived.

What’s not so great...

The Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card acts as a low cost card. That means it has a low ongoing purchase rate and a low annual fee, but it doesn’t have much in the way of features. If you’d like a card that offers extras such as hotel stays and flight upgrades, there are plenty to choose from, but just keep in mind these cards will generally charge higher interest rates and annual fees.

Why should you choose this card?

If you want a great balance transfer offer on a low cost card, the Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card could be the ideal option. With its balance transfer deal, it may suit cardholders who want to pay down existing credit card debt. With its low purchase rate, it may work well for those who carry a balance. With its low annual fee, it could be a good choice for anyone who simply wants to keep costs to a minimum while still enjoying access to credit.

And, while it may not be swamped with extravagant extras, it does have a few appealing features on offer. The card offers compatibility with Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay, allowing for faster payments and the option of leaving your wallet at home. You can also benefit from the security offered by Visa’s Zero Liability policy and Verified by Visa, and easy access to your account via the Mobile Banking App or Internet Banking.

Overall Rating

Currently offering 0% p.a. on balance transfers for six months, the Credit Union SA Visa Credit Card is a real money saver, with a low ongoing purchase rate and a low annual fee.

Hi Monica, every person has a unique financial position. What banks look at is your income v expenses, assets v liabilities and your credit history as main points. This Credit Union does not seem to see the pension as income. Therefore if that is your only income. You will have to look else where. The Big 4 banks can see the pension as income. So you might want to check some offers there.
