The Citi Clear Credit Card - Cashback Offer Review

Citi Clear Card is a low-interest rate credit card that offers generous promotional savings to its cardholders, existing and new. Exciting as it becomes, it now also highlights a cashback offer for its newly approved applications. This is on top of the 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 15 months introductory offer combined with a discounted annual fee in the first year.

What we love

This card is a rare gem in the market because it comes with enticing introductory offers and is loaded with attractive features and exclusive discounts and perks.

First on the list is the cashback offer. If you apply and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from approval, you will receive $400 cashback. This will be credited to your account within 16 weeks of meeting the spend criteria but it is important to note that in order to receive the cashback, your Citi Clear card must remain open and in good standing. Make sure you review the fine print for the full terms and conditions of the offer.

Next up, is a long 15-month 0% p.a. introductory interest on balance transfers, with no balance transfer fee. Proving itself as a big money saver, cardholders can take their time in paying down their balance without worrying about interest charges for 15 months. Transfer up to 80% of your approved credit limit but take note that there are no interest-free days on purchases until the balance transfer has been paid off.

Considering its long list of promotional offers, benefits, and features, this card is generous when it comes to its standard annual fee. It is very reasonable at $99 p.a. Attracting you more is its $50 discount on the first year. This is only available to new cardholders.

What’s not so great...

The downside for this card is a very high revert rate for its balance transfer offer. After 15 months of enjoying the free balance transfers, you will be charged with a 22.24% p.a. cash advance rate. This is quite heavy for big spenders and obviously not beneficial to most spending patterns. However, you can still avoid this if you pay your balance on time.

Also, keep in mind that while you have a balance transfer, you will not be eligible for any interest-free days on retail purchases. This means that the applicable annual percentage rate will be applied to all your spending.

    19 December 2022
Hi there, transferring money from a credit card to a bank account or BPAY typically incurs the cash advance rate of interest, but Citi offers a feature called "Citi PayAll" that allows for such transfers for expenses like rent and bills at a reduced fee of 0% from April 2021 to October 2023. Be sure to review the terms and conditions on Citi's website for more information on Citi PayAll. Hope that helps!

Eligible purchases include paying for periodontist, dentist fees and Car insurance?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    8 December 2022
Hi Carrie, credit card issuers actually don’t indicate which transactions are considered eligible. If your payment for doctor or dentist fees and car insurance is processed as a standard transaction, then most likely they’ll be considered eligible. I checked the Citi Clear Cashback card’s terms and it states that transactions like cash advances, interest, fees, balance transfers and the like are not considered eligible. Hope that helped!

Hi, what is meant by eligible purchases as a condition of the cashback offer?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    10 November 2022
Hi Evandri, eligible transactions are those that you make in your day-to-day life (e.g. paying for your groceries, car’s petrol, etc.) and Citi does not state which are considered eligible unfortunately. But, they indicate that transactions like balance transfers, refunds, and chargebacks, cash advances and the like are not considered eligible.

What are eligible purchases?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    26 September 2022
Hi Dishant, eligible purchases are generally considered anything where your credit card is used at a Point of Sale terminal. For example, your local coffee shop, Maccas, Woolworths and even retailers like JB HiFi. Anything that the Citi cards T&C's define as a "cash purchase" are not eligible transactions. Hope this has helped!
