The Macquarie Black Card with Macquarie Reward Points

What we love...

When you sign up for a black card, you expect to benefit from some decent black card extras. So, what does the Macquarie Black Card with Macquarie Reward Points have to offer?

As a rewards card, the everyday earn rate on the black card is higher, allowing cardholders to earn 2 Macquarie Reward points per $1 spent, uncapped.

What can you spend those points on? The Macquarie Rewards program seems to focus on gift cards and cashback. You can earn up to $54 in gift cards when you spend $5,000 per month on your Black card with Macquarie Rewards. You can track and redeem points via the bank’s app and online banking options.

Adding other cardholders to your account could help you boost your points earn. You can add up to four additional cardholders to the account with no extra fee. This not only helps to simplify family finances, but it could also add more spending power to your account, allowing you to earn points faster and get more value from the card.

What’s not so great...

Let’s talk a bit more about that interest rate. You will often find premium cards such as this have a high purchase rate. Yes, this card offers plenty in the way of intro offers and extras, and yes, it offers the opportunity to earn rewards – but if you want to make the most of all that, you need to avoid interest costs accumulating.

One way to steer clear of interest charges is to take advantage of up to 55 days interest free on purchases as long as you clear your balance by the due date each month.

Why should you choose this card?

This card is all about the extras, so naturally, it would likely suit a cardholder who wants more from their card, earning rewards while also enjoying valuable features. Time to run through some of the features you could benefit from on the Macquarie Black Card with Macquarie Reward Points.

  • 24/7 Concierge Service: You can access the card’s concierge service around the clock, to gain assistance with anything from organising travel arrangements to ordering a gift for that someone special.
  • Discounted Concierge Limo Service: You can benefit from 20% off Concierge Service limousine travel when you book through the concierge and pay for it on your card.
  • Overseas Airport Lounge Access: You will have access to more than 750 airport lounges around the world, to enjoy a more relaxing travel experience complete with complimentary refreshments and snacks. Service charges apply, excludes airport lounges in Australia.
  • Visa exchange rate: No additional fees are added to the exchange rate, making overseas spending cheaper.
  • Complimentary Insurance: You can enjoy peace of mind thanks to overseas travel insurance for you, your spouse and any dependent children.
  • Buying Insurance: Card Purchase Cover and Buyer’s Advantage Cover on eligible purchases.
  • Visa Entertainment: You can access exclusive events and ticket pre-sales, with offers on music, movies, theatre and home entertainment with Visa Entertainment.

Overall Rating

Providing access to a wide range of black card perks, the Macquarie Black Card with Macquarie Reward Points entices you with no international purchase fees and great travel extras thrown in, all for a reasonable annual fee.

I have this card mainly for the (no longer offered) Qantas points @ 1:1 up to $4000 & its 0% international transaction fees. I did a rough calculation that I was only paying an additional 0.04% (to Visa) for all my payments when travelling on this card. Great for security when travelling through multiple countries. Macquarie's customer service is also great. For only a $149.00 annual fee, I think this is great value.

When redeeming awards is it approx. 20,000 points for all e gift cards and can they be printed and used physically in the store?

Hi John, those are great questions! I did a deep dive on this and you’ll actually get an eGift card or cashback. Redemption for eGift cards actually start from 3,850 points for a $20 gift card. eGift cards are mostly digital and you’ll probably get a code you add to your account, or as a coupon code at checkout. You can redeem your Macquarie Rewards points either via their online banking or their banking app.

If I have 100000 points what would be the actual reward in the form of a credit to my card that I would receive if I cashed them in ? And can I set up an auto repay from a Macquarie offset account to the Macquarie Black Card ?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    4 November 2019
Hi Bill, How can I redeem my points? You can redeem your points at any time via the Macquarie Mobile Banking app or Macquarie Online. I do not have access myself to the rewards program. Though check in the app or on the website. Most providers do allow for cash back using points. Though I am not sure if Macbank does. In regards to the direct debit - yes you can do this. Have a look at this page and download the form - https://www.macquarie.com/au/personal/credit-cards/expertise/setting-up-direct-debit/
