This Card: The Lowdown

Aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, the American Express Platinum Business Card is the ideal option for business owners who want to earn more points on travel and business expenses, while also benefiting from an extensive range of travel and lifestyle features and a range of useful business tools.

As it is a charge card, not a credit card, the American Express Platinum Business Card has flexible spending power as long as the balance is paid in full each month. Businesses can apply for up to 99 Employee Card Members on the account, with 55 days to pay. This can offer a flexible cash flow arrangement to businesses that want an alternative to a business credit card.

If you need more time to pay off your statement you can use Amex's Flexible Payment Option (FPO)* to pay a portion of your balance in instalments. When you apply, you'll be given a maximum amount you can use towards a FPO (much like a credit card limit, but for the amount you can allocate to flexible repayments). FPOs are charged at either the normal purchase rate or the rate specified on your monthly statement and may include other fees.

*With Flexible Payment Option, you will be charged interest if you do not pay your Closing Balance in full by the due date each month. Full terms and conditions can be found on the Amex website.

Digging Deeper

With the basics covered, it's time to dig a little deeper into what's on offer with the American Express Platinum Business Card, so you can decide whether this card is right for you.

Firstly, as of 15 February 2024, American Express launched its Amex Experiences App that gives you even more travel offers, events, and member benefits, including exclusives like Amex pre-sales and special event tickets. You'll be able to access information on booked hotels and find recommended businesses around the globe. It's an easy way to maximise your Amex Membership benefits in one place.

Just note that the new app doesn't replace the Amex App that you use to manage your banking. To download the new app, search for 'Amex Experiences' (available on Google Play and via the App Store).

This Card: As a Rewards Card

Helping to offset that annual fee – in the first year, at least – these bonus points could get you to New Zealand and back, with a return Economy Classic Flight Reward from Sydney to Auckland (plus taxes, fees, and carrier charges).

As a Platinum Business Card Member, you can earn points on all your Business Card spend:

Spending Points

The Membership Rewards program is extremely flexible. Points can be redeemed for flights, hotels, car hire, gift cards, or converted to frequent flyer programs including Asia Miles, KrisFlyer, and more. Points can also be redeemed for statement credits or everyday purchases via Everyday Rewards.

This Card: As a Travel Rewards Card

ALL Accor+ Explorer Membership

New Card Members get ALL Accor+ Explorer membership, valued at $349 per year. Benefits include two complimentary 'Stay Plus' nights per year at 1,300+ Accor hotels in Asia Pacific, 30% off meals for up to 10 guests, and 15% off drinks at 1,600+ participating restaurants. Members also receive ALL Accor Gold status, giving access to room upgrades, late check-outs, and priority service.

Lounge Access

The Global Lounge Collection provides access to participating airport lounges, with eligibility depending on the lounge provider. Eligible Primary and Employee Platinum Card Members can visit participating Plaza Premium lounges and bring one complimentary guest. Priority Pass membership is available only to the Primary Card Member, who can bring one complimentary guest into lounges that admit guests. Employee Card Members do not receive their own complimentary Priority Pass membership. Priority Pass enrolment is required. Lounge access is subject to availability and each lounge’s terms and conditions.

Luxury Hotel Benefits

Hotel Elite tier status at Marriott Bonvoy™, Hilton Honors, and Radisson Hotel Group. Complimentary Travel Insurance

Complimentary domestic and international travel insurance extends to both primary and Employee Card Members when you pay for your return trip with your Card. Spouses and dependent children under 25 are also covered when travelling with the Card Member. This Card: The Essentials

As it is a charge card, not a credit card, you need to pay the full balance each month. Your spending is approved based on credit history, financial resources, and payment behaviour. Eligible applicants must be over 18, have a good credit history, be Australian citizens or permanent residents, earn $75,000+ annual business revenue, and have a valid ABN registered for GST.
