Is the free travel insurance for platinum card users going to be ceased next year?
Hi Therese, great question. BOQ’s website notes that the complimentary travel insurance on the Platinum card will end from 15 May 2026. The full insurance booklet (effective 26 November 2025) doesn’t list that date, but it does explain that BOQ and the insurer can change or end the cover with notice.

Does this card offer flybuys redemption. If so do you know the conversation rate?
Hi Nathan, thanks for asking! You can absolutely redeem your BOQ Q Rewards points for flybuys points, but BOQ doesn’t publicly list the exact conversion rate, so we can't confirm the exact ratio here.
However, I can share that for Velocity points, the rate is 3 Q Rewards points = 1 Velocity point, with transfers needing a minimum of 30,000 Q Rewards points. 2 Flybuys points can be converted to Velocity points, so if you do some rough maths it might work out the same.
For the most accurate and current info, I’d recommend logging into your BOQ Internet Banking and navigating to the Q Rewards / Other Card Functions section. This will show the current conversion rate and your options.

Hi Christopher, The Bank of Queensland Platinum card has the Q Rewards program. The Q Rewards program is the in-house program for BoQ. You can then transfer these points to your Velocity Account (if you have one) or redeem them for vouchers or statement credit.
I have BOQ Platinum visa credit card; also a long standing card holder. I am travelling overseas. What is the minimum amount I should spend on my card on travel cost to receive international travel insurance cover?
Hi Devaka, I looked into this for you however it does not state the amount on how much should be spent but it does indicate that to be eligible, the cardholder’s trip is not more than 6 months for a BOQ Platinum Visa credit card, should obtain the overseas travel ticket before leaving Australia by charging the cost of the ticket to the account holder’s card account or by getting the ticket by redeeming Q Rewards Points or under the Take Flight program, and is the cardholder. You can check BOQ’s official complimentary insurance T&Cs PDS for more information.

Hi Dave, I checked this for you and see that the whole price of the item is charged to the account holder’s card account in order to be eligible for the extended warranty insurance coverage. You can also check more information about the different insurance coverages included on their official insurance PDS.
Hi just wanting to know if there is anything I need to do to activate my international travel insurance. I paid for the flight tickets with my platinum credit card. Or it is automatic because I paid with credit card?
Hi Michelle, diving into BOQ Platinum card’s insurance terms, it states that you may be eligible for the international travel insurance coverage if your travel is no more than 6 months, and that you’ve obtained your overseas travel ticket before leaving Australia by either putting the charge of the cost of your overseas travel ticket to the account holder’s card account, or by redeeming your Q Rewards points for the ticket, or getting the overseas travel ticket under the Take Flight program, and that you are a cardholder at the time you obtained your overseas travel ticket.
It does not state though what else you need to do but we strongly advise you to inform BOQ before your travel and inform them of the travel dates. If they notice overseas transactions on your account, it may get blocked for fraud.
