Who suits the Qantas Money Platinum card?

Globetrotter: you love travelling, and get a buzz from earning points that make your trips free and more fun. Healthy Spender: your cashflow is high but healthy and you want to earn high-volume points. Discounts and extras are a bonus. Money Geek: you watch your accounts, and like budgeting and hitting money goals. You want good bang for your bucks.

Editor's Review: What I love about the Qantas Money Platinum card

Cards that earn Qantas points are famously popular, and the Qantas Money Platinum is right up there in lights. It’s a travellers card, designed to reward you for spending overseas and buying Qantas products, and gives you a stack of travel perks, points and retail discounts.

100,000 bonus points. You can earn up to 100k bonus Qantas points by meeting certain criteria. You’ll earn 60,000 points if you spend $5,000 or more on eligible purchases within 3 months of approval. This offer is only available if you haven't held a Qantas Money Platinum card in the last 12 months. You can earn an extra 40,000 if you haven’t earned Qantas Points with any brand of credit card in the last 24 months.

$50 annual fee discount. For the first year, you’ll pay a $349 annual fee instead of $399.

0% balance transfer. You’ll get 0% p.a. for 12 months on balance transfers with a 3% BT fee (reverts to cash advance rate after 12 months).

How many Qantas Points can you earn?

The Qantas Money Platinum earns unlimited points (per whole AUD$1), but it does have a tiered points structure that looks like this:

  • International spending: 1.5 points uncapped
  • Domestic spending: 1 point uncapped up until you've spent $10,000 in a statement period, then 0.5 points thereafter
  • Bonus points on selected Qantas products and services: Bonus 1 point, uncapped

What can you get with Qantas Points?

Flights & Travel
110,400 Qantas points =
return flight to London (ex. taxes)
Shopping
79,800 Qantas points =
Apple watch SE GPS
Gift cards
23,330 Qantas points =
$100 Bunnings gift card
Points are correct as at 14 Mar 2025. Points values may change, so please check the Qantas website to calculate your rewards.

How can the Qantas Money Platinum card make travel cheaper?

Feature How it saves money Potential savings
2 complimentary lounge invitations each year You’ll get 2 single-entry invitations per year to a Qantas Club or Qantas-operated International Business Lounge with complimentary food, drinks, and WiFi. Up to $140
International and domestic travel insurance This travel insurance activates when you buy return flights or cruise tickets using the card and includes cruise cover and overseas rental vehicle excess cover. $50-$1,000+ depending on frequency of travel, age, and destination
Up to 20% off domestic flights for you and 8 buddies 10% off Red eDeal, 15% off Flex Economy, and 20% off Business flights when booked through your Qantas Money account. Dependent on flight costs
Concierge services Concierge can help with travel bookings, entertainment, dining reservations, gift sourcing and more. Saves time and can secure better deals

What's not so great

First, it’s a slight bummer that Qantas Money Platinum card isn’t compatible with Samsung Pay. However, Qantas is compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Adding extra cardholders to a rewards card is a smart way to bump up your points quickly, but it’ll cost $50 per cardholder per year.

Also, remember you’ll need to spend the minimum amount to get the bonus points, without stretching yourself to do so. If you can’t make the monthly repayments and you start paying interest, you’re chipping into the value of your points.

Overall Rating

The Qantas Money Platinum is a high-tier card with benefits for travelers that are on par with other premium cards, and some are even better. The annual fee isn’t as high as others in the Qantas Points space, and you get a discount the first year.

All told, this card is worth looking at if you want to earn uncapped Qantas Points at one of the highest rates per dollar, get other travel discounts and perks, and use domestic and international travel insurance, which includes some rental vehicle excess cover.

For rewards this is one of the best cards, and at time time I signed up, the only card that can get you Qantas Status Credits. What's been disappointing is the lack of Google Pay. This is really hard to find in this info online, they really hide the fact they don't have it. So after months of being wallet free I now have to carry it around then thanks to this card. The card quality for a "Premier Platinum Card" it feels kind of cheap, the printing is really low quality and blurry. The app is very painful to use. I tried to activate via the app - impossible due to the app being made cheaply. Customer service is only via phone. These days I much prefer chat so I can do other things while waiting for the agent to reply. There's no email either. So I'll hang around to get my 75 status credits and bonus points, but then cancel and go back to a card with Google Pay and a decent support network.

I had a disputed transaction and the communication has been unacceptable. The call centres can't answer questions and in fact gave wrong information. They never called me - I have only ever called them. They send letters that are factually incorrect. I have lodged written complaint.

For the first 12 months with this card, everything went smoothly. Unfortunately I then experienced a fraud situation (picked up quickly and replacement card sent within 2 days) so I felt confident. Sadly, that is the end of the good news. Woeful customer service, think the new card is not linked to my account, could not activate card, cannot get access to transaction data, or change pin. Call centre appears to be overseas and I question staff training. and ownership of problems. After a month of calls, still no resolution and I am sick of it. ,Terrible service for a $299 annual fee

Hi Pauline, just a couple of questions. Is there a minimum statement period purchase to earn points or is it just $1-10k before going to 0.5 points? And when it says transaction period is that monthly or 44 days like the interest free period? thanks
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    16 September 2025
Hi Nathan, thanks for your thoughtful questions! If you’d like a quick overview of how Qantas-earning cards work, our Qantas Frequent Flyer credit card guide is a handy place to start. For the Qantas Money Platinum card itself, the current earn rates are: 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 on eligible overseas purchases 1 Point per $1 on eligible domestic spend, up to $10,000 each statement period (then 0.5 Points per $1 after that) Plus 1 bonus Point per $1 on selected Qantas products and services There’s no minimum spend over a statement period. Points are earned on eligible purchases as soon as they’re processed, within those tiers. The “transaction period” mentioned in the PDS refers to your monthly statement cycle, not the 44-day interest-free period. Hope this has helped!

Hi Groden, whether you can switch from the Qantas Premier Platinum to the Titanium version will come down to Qantas Money’s own policies. It might need to be a whole new appliation for credit. I’d suggest reaching out to Qantas Money directly to confirm your options.

    1 August 2025
Hi Lyndall, Thanks for your message. The Qantas Premier Credit Card does offer complimentary international travel insurance, but there are a few conditions you’ll need to meet. To be covered, you must: -Be a permanent Australian resident under 80 years of age -Have paid for at least $500 of your travel costs (flights or accommodation) using your Qantas Premier card before leaving Australia -Hold a return travel ticket Based on your travel period and destinations, and assuming you’ve met those conditions, your cover should extend across the entire trip. For full details, refer to the Qantas Premier Insurance Terms and Conditions. We also have a guide for credit cards with complimentary insurance that you might find useful. Safe travels!

What does it mean with eligible purchases? If I purchase a plane ticket from air Canada for 4,000 aud, it's not a Qantas member airline. Will it still be eligible spend?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    23 July 2025
Hi Emma, great question! “Eligible purchases” generally include most everyday transactions, such as retail purchases and flights. So yes, buying an Air Canada ticket should typically count towards your spend requirement, even though it’s not a Qantas partner airline, as long as the transaction is processed normally and not excluded (e.g. cash advances or BPAY). For full details, it’s best to check the T&Cs of the card or visit our guide to textQantas Frequent Flyer credit cards.

    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    8 July 2025
Hi Lauren, sadly providers generally don’t provide a list of “eligible purchases”. They usually cover things like retail and everyday purchases. On the plus side they mention what isn't considered eligible, such as cash advances, balance transfers, gambling, etc. Check the fine print for more information, but other than those, you should be good to go. All the best!

Hi Kim, unfortunately not. The travel insurance is only activated if you pay for the tickets of everyone you want covered, with your Qantas Premier card. You’ll probably need to look for a standalone policy if you want to be insured.

    23 May 2025
Hi Enzo, the Qantas Premier Platinum Card doesn't have a specific list of “eligible purchases”. However, thankfully they do provide a list of non-eligible purchases, which include annual fees, cash advances, interest, fees and any charges for traveller's cheques and foreign currencies. On the plus side you’ll be able to earn 1 bonus Qantas Point per whole $1 on other selected Qantas products and services. Thanks Enzo!

Will I get points for balance transfer?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    20 February 2025
Hi Amanda, unfortunately, balance transfers are listed as non-eligible purchases, meaning you won’t earn rewards points on any amount you transfer from another credit card. Eligible purchases that typically earn points include everyday transactions such as groceries, dining, fuel, and retail shopping. However, non-eligible transactions—like balance transfers, cash advances, BPAY payments, and government charges—do not qualify for points. As this card is at essence a Qantas Points card, if you're looking to maximise your rewards, it would be a better idea to use your card for eligible purchases only.

Hi Pauline, I have the Qantas Premier Platinum CC, recently as a new owner of this card I've, earned 100.000 Qantas points within the 1st 3 Months of owning the card I think, but please correct me?? if I've never earned Qantas points before, do I receive another 50,000 points if I keep the CC over the 12-month period. Q2. The card offers Travel and car insurance does this work for travelling to the United Kingdom?? and how do I look to see what and where it covers. Thankyou Kind Regard s William B.

    Pauline

    6 December 2024
Hi Bill, this card will give you 50,000 points after 3 months when you meet the spend criteria, and then 30k after 12 months. If you have 100k that you can’t account for, it might be worth calling Qantas Frequent Flyer directly to check. You can also login to your Qantas account to see accrual too. You’ll be covered for your trip to the UK as long as you meet the eligibility criteria, which includes spending at least $500 on flights on the card. You can see all the eligibility requirements on page 8 of the Travel Insurance PDS. Safe travels!

I am looking to apply for my first ever credit card on my own. I currently have a joint one with my husband, but need one for myself as I will be travelling alone in 2025. I am looking for a card that will earn me the most points and am considering the Qantas card however, I have a question: what do you mean by Balance Transfer fee? I will be transferring the money owed on the credit card monthly from my personal account. Will I be charged extra for this? Thanks for your guidance in advance.

    Pauline

    3 October 2024
Hi Suzan, I’m glad to hear you're getting your first credit card and it’s great you’re asking questions first! A balance transfer allows you to move a balance from an existing credit or store card to another card with a different issuer. The Qantas Premier Platinum currently has a 0% p.a. for 12 months offer on balance transfers, but you’ll also pay a one-off 2% fee. So if you transferred $1000 you’d pay a $20 fee. You can check this article I’ve written for more information about balance transfers or if you have any other questions feel free to leave another comment. Thanks!

    3 October 2024
Hi Paul, if you already have the same card in your name (whether for personal or business use) and are earning points, you won’t be eligible for any of the bonus points. Here’s how it works: if you’ve held any card that isn’t a Qantas Premier card (for example Westpac or NAB), even if it earns Qantas Points, you’ll earn the 70k sign-up bonus points. But if you’ve held any card that has earned Qantas Points in the last year, you won’t earn the 30k points. I know it’s a little confusing, so I hope that helps. Thanks!
