ANZ Low Rate Credit Card – 0% Balance Transfer

The ANZ Low Rate Credit Card - Balance Transfer Offer

If you’re looking for a simple, affordable credit card, the ANZ Low Rate credit card delivers well. It charges a low interest rate plus an admirable introductory offer that could be a huge help if you need to consolidate some debt and pay it down.

The ANZ Low Rate card has two introductory offers to choose from: here, we're reviewing the card and its Balance Transfer offer. If you're interested in getting cashback instead, you can see our review of the ANZ Low Rate credit card - Cashback offer (same card, different introductory bonus). With the cashback offer, you'll get $250 credit back to your new card plus $0 annual fee first year.

**28 month promotional period starts when ANZ issues a Letter of Offer, not when the Balance Transfer is processed (usually 3-15 business days after card activation). Rate reverts to standard BT rate at the end of the promotional period, currently 21.99% p.a. T&Cs, eligibility criteria, fees and charges apply (including an annual fee, $0 for the first year, currently $58 thereafter).

The ANZ Low Rate card doesn't have many bells and whistles, but delivers exactly what it needs to for a low-cost, low-rate credit card.

What we love...

The ANZ Low Rate Credit Card doesn’t provide any show-stopping features, but it does have one ace up its sleeve. As a cardholder, you will benefit from a low purchase rate and a low annual fee, while still enjoying access to credit and a decent set of basic features.

Right now, the ANZ Low Rate card comes with two introductory offers - the balance transfer offer, and a $250 cashback offer. To see the cashback offer, check out our review here.

If you have existing credit card debts, the 28-month 0% p.a. on balance transfers offer will give you wiggle room to pay it down without being charged interest in the meantime. Just be aware that a one-time 3% balance transfer fee applies and at the end of the intro period, the rate reverts to the standard balance transfer rate of 21.99% p.a. The promo period starts when ANZ issues the Letter of Offer and not when the balance transfer is processed (usually 3-15 business days after card activation).

You'll also pay no annual fee for the first year (saving you $58), which helps keep costs down while you get stuck into your debt.

What’s not so great...

Being a fairly no-frills card, the ANZ Low Rate card doesn't have many complicated offers and features with a ton of scary fine print. Just make sure you factor in the balance transfer fee of 3%, and the 13.74% purchase rate if you don't pay off your card each month. It's a very low interest rate, but it's still adding to your card costs.

In terms of limitations, the main downside to this card is in its simplicity, which only counts as a downside if you’re looking for a credit card packed with extras. If you happen to be looking for a simple, affordable card (especially if you have debt to deal with) the ANZ Low Rate Credit Card does tick plenty of boxes.

Why should you choose this card?

Aside from its low purchase rate and low annual fee, this card does offer some extras that you’ll probably come to appreciate.

ANZ has teamed up with Cashrewards, which allows you to earn rewards at over 2,000 participating retailers. It's a way of earning freebies without owning a rewards credit card, which is a nice little side perk.

This card also provides worldwide emergency card replacement, up to 55 days interest-free on purchases, and up to three free additional cardholders. To apply for this card you have to be a permanent Australian resident or a non-permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa.

In terms of security, ANZ offers its cardholders ANZ Fraud Money Back Guarantee and 24/7 Falcon fraud monitoring, which monitors your transactions for suspicious activity.

Overall Rating

The ANZ Low Rate Credit Card - Balance Transfer Offer is a simple, low-interest card with two introductory offers - the 0% p.a. balance transfer rate for a 28-month promotional period I've outlined here, OR $250 credit back to your new card (which you can see here). You'll pay $0 annual fee in the first year, then $58 thereafter. It's a very decent card if you're looking for a way to pay off debt without accruing more interest, want an emergency fund in your pocket, if you're new to credit cards or just want to use a credit card without paying a big annual fee.

I have applied for the card 11th of May with all the documents. I received a text message on 15th of May that they will be in touch via phone call next business day and pick a time slot for them to call. Its 18th May and no response at all. At leaset a text message saying a delay. I have been warned from others regarding the slow response time at ANZ. But I thought I'd give it a go. But its true! Apart from customer service whats on the description looks good.

As a Balance Transfer it was brilliant. ANZ gave excellent service until the end when I paid off the card and closed the account. At that point, access to internet banking stopped and they couldn't tell me what the final interest would be until the computer worked it out for them! (What did we do before computers?) I then received a statement through snail-mail for a few dollars and cents which I had to go to a branch to pay off. Then the next month I received a bill for $0.03. What a pain! Why do banks spend money on paper and postage to send you a bill for three cents? Wake up ANZ --all was really good until the end.

For a cheap card, this is a good option. After having an expensive rewards card for years, I decided I didnâ??t use half of what was on it. This was a good choice for me. Low annual fee and low interest rate, plus I get to stay with ANZ.

Hi Donna, it appears that the S1 is opened when you get your membership and generally would remain open with your membership. You’d be better off giving Police Bank a call on 131 728 to discuss your options. Good luck!

If I am an existing ANZ customer CAN I also take advantage of ANZ Balance Transfer Offer? I am about to pay a medical bill for $6000.00 on my existing ANZ credit card
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    9 October 2023
Hi Heather, unfortunately the current balance transfer offer of the ANZ Low Rate Balance Transfer card is only available to new and approved ANZ credit card applicants only. Alternatively, you could consider comparing a range of cards that offer an introductory 0% p.a. offer on purchases.

    6 October 2023
Hi Sakdiphat, unfortunately balance transfers are when you transfer a balance from your existing account to another bank card account. You’ll need to choose a provider that is different from ANZ. You can choose your provider from the drop down menu above the balance transfer credit card comparison, which will only show cards you can transfer to.

Hi Beth! ANZ says it can take up to 4 days to process an application. This card does charge foreign transaction fees at 3%. There are other good low-rate options with no foreign fees on purchases on our comparison guide here that might help. Thanks Beth!

    8 September 2023
Hi Rosemary, the ANZ Low Rate card isn’t a rewards card and isn’t affiliated with the Qantas FF program, so I don’t think it would be possible. You can see cards that earn Qantas-related points here though. Thanks!

Hi Liv, this card has a monthly statement period where you’ll need to pay at least the minimum amount. ANZ also has an instalments plan feature, but that’s also paid monthly. You’re free to make extra repayments anytime, of course. I hope that answers your question, thanks Liv!
