The American Express Velocity Platinum Card is a real winner for those who are flying Virgin regularly or using one of the airlines in the Virgin group. Especially with 60,000 bonus Velocity Points offer. Add to this a complimentary return domestic flight when you sign up with this card, and one every year after to keep you flying more often. With that comes entry to the Virgin Australia lounge twice per year so you know you’ll be able to travel in style. Plus, enjoy two complimentary entries per year to the Centurion® Lounge, located at Sydney International Airport or Melbourne International Airport. Cardholders need to simply present their physical eligible cards to gain lounge access.

What we love...

This card is absolutely packed with benefits for the $375 annual fee. Receive 60,000 bonus Velocity Points when you apply online, are approved, and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases on your new Card within the first 3 months. The 60,000 bonus Velocity Points will be awarded to the eligible Card Member’s account 8-10 weeks after the spend criteria has been met.

The bonus points can be redeemed for travel to destinations around Australia and when the time comes, to your favourite spots around the world. You can also use the bonus points for car hire, hotel stays, or shopping online at the Velocity Rewards Store for a range of exciting products and gift cards.

With 60,000 points, you could fly return in business from Melbourne to Sydney for 36,800 points, or use it to purchase an Apple $250 Gift Card for 50,850 points at Velocity Rewards Store.

This is a great credit card when you don't run a balance on it. What’s not so great...

One worth mentioning is the high interest rate on purchases. Therefore this card is best suited for someone that pays their balance off in time.
