The Qantas-Emirates Alliance: Key Points For Rewards Cardholders

Last updated

The historic partnership between Qantas and Emirates could mean significant changes for frequent flyer cardholders. In September 2012, Qantas and Emirates announced a partnership that would see the two airlines working closely together in all areas of international operation. There are a number of questions this raises for members, and perhaps the most important is: Will you be able to transfer Emirates points to Qantas Frequent Flyer points and vice-versa? i.e do they work for both programs? Read on to find out.

As well as increasing the range of international flights and changing stopovers from Singapore to Dubai (in the case of most Qantas European flights), one of the most significant changes lies with loyalty programs.

Emirates Credit Card and Qantas

From 2013 onwards – subject to regulatory approval – Qantas Frequent Flyer and Emirates Skywards members will gain even more benefits through this alliance, including:

  • The ability to earn points from either program when making bookings with Qantas or Emirates,
  • Redemptions between these two airlines,
  • Status level recognition; and
  • Access to both of the airline’s lounges

What this means for frequent flyer cardholders is a much greater range of reward benefits and options.

For one thing, the ability to earn and redeem points between these two loyalty programs could make a huge difference to the value of credit card rewards, allowing you to shop around for the best flight prices and schedules.

With both Qantas and Emirates also offering reciprocal access to tier status benefits, you will also have more options when it comes to airport lounge access, priority check-in and additional complimentary services.
