The Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Credit Card

As part of Westpac’s BusinessChoice range, the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Credit Card offers a dazzling array of features, an excellent rewards program and a very pleasing introductory offer, making it a great choice of business credit card for companies wanting up to ten cards linked within one business account.

What we love...

Designed to attract the attention of potential cardholders comparing their options, the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Credit Card has an appealing introductory offer currently on the table.

First up, the Qantas Business Rewards program joining fee will be waived, offering new customers a saving of $89.50. This offer is only available for new Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard cardholders.

So, what is this Qantas Business Rewards program exactly? To earn Qantas Points on this card, your business must first become a member of the Qantas Business Rewards program. This allows you to earn points on business expenses paid for on your Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Credit Card.

Qantas Points earned by your business can be transferred to any Qantas Frequent Flyer account, to then be redeemed as the account-holder likes. Points could be redeemed on flights and upgrades, or on more than 3,000 items in the Qantas store.

And the earn rate? You can earn 0.75 Qantas Points for every $1.50 spent on eligible business purchases, and 0.5 Qantas Points for every $1.50 spent on government payments. Each cardholder can earn up to 100,000 Qantas Points per month within each statement period, excluding any bonus Qantas Points earned.

What’s not so great...

To know whether this card really is for you, checking the small print is a good place to start. Some factors you may want to pay attention to include the annual fee, which is $150 for each card, and the rates of interest attached to cash advances and purchases, which are both pretty high.

It’s also worth noting that compared to certain other platinum cards, this card does not offer an overly amazing earn rate on its rewards program.

Why should you choose this card?

One important thing to bear in mind with this card is how it works. Unlike some other business credit cards, the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Credit Card does not offer personal liability.

Instead, there is joint or several liability among the business principals who apply for the credit card, who are each liable to the bank jointly and severally for all amounts outstanding.

This allows the business to issue up to ten cards to trusted employees, each with individual card credit limits from $1,000, and full tracking on each card's activities.

If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll probably want to know more about the additional features on offer. As a cardholder, you can enjoy several platinum perks, including the services of a platinum concierge, the convenience of easy tax reporting and analysis of your business transactions, and up to 55 interest-free days on purchases.

The card also offers an array of insurances. These include overseas travel insurance, interstate flight inconvenience insurance, transit accident insurance; purchase security insurance, extended warranty insurance, and unauthorised transaction insurance.

Overall Rating

A platinum business card that offers excellent business features and rewards, allowing you to award earned Qantas Points to yourself, to family or to staff members.

Plus, you get to join Qantas Business Rewards program for free.

Hi Pauline. Does the insurance on this card cover my rental in the USA?

Hi Annie! The Westpac Business card a href="https://www.westpac.com.au/business-banking/credit-cards/manage/travelling-overseas-insurance/insurance-cover/" rel=“noopener noreferrer” target=“_blank”>insurance terms say the Overseas Transit Accident Insurance "covers against specified accidental death or injury when sustained overseas while riding, boarding or alighting as a passenger in a plane, bus, train or shorthaul ferry when you have purchased the tickets for the entire trip using your Credit Card before you leave (terms, conditions, exclusions and eligibility criteria apply)." So you aren't covered for a rental vehicle overseas, only the transports listed above. The card does come with rental vehicle excess cover in Australia, though. Thanks Annie!

Is domestic insurance included for accommodation
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    16 June 2023
Hi Lisa, I checked the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard’s official complimentary insurance T&Cs PDS however it does not explicitly mention including domestic insurance for accommodation as one of its benefits. The only domestic policy it features is the Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance. You can call Westpac directly at 132 142 to confirm if any insurance coverage related to accommodation is included.

How much excess is covered on Australian car rentals?

Hi. I've had my Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Card for 4 months and have noticed that on my first statement in Feb, I was charged $37.50 as an "annual card charge". Now in June, I've been charged another $150 as an "annual card charge." Every credit card that I have had in the last 12 years has charged the annual fee based on the anniversary of my card commencing, not on a quarterly basis. Is this just a Westpac anomaly?

Hi Jon, typically the annual card fee is charged soon after activation. It may be that Westpac make the annual card fee bill out with the EOFY. Therefore you were charged a part annual fee. Then recently you have been charged a full year. This is only an assumption. I checked the westpac site and there was no information on a $37.50. If you still are concerned you can contact Westpac business credit card customer service.

Where does Australia Post fit in with relation to earning points. Does it come under government entities or a stock standard business entity. i.e. if I spend $5K a month on postal satchels what rate would i earn points
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    18 June 2020
Hi Daryl, I would think that Australia Post should be counted as a standard business and earn points. Gov is more on rates / ATO.

Hi Roland, Regarding the Businesschoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard. Is it 120,000 points earned per card holder if each card spends $3000 within 90 days of approval? Or is it 120,000 per facility and the total spend was $3000 across multiple card holders within the 90 day period. Cheers, Cam.

Hi Cam, no the bonus points is just for the primary holder. Yes the minimum spend requirement could be made up from both the primary and any of the supplementary cards.

Thanks Roland for your answer to my previous question. With regard to AMEX, the BPAY website suggests that the ATO do not accept it (https://bpay.com.au/BillerLookupResults?query=75556). Do you know if there is another way to pay tax bills using AMEX?

We are an Australian registered business and my partner is a citizen living in Sydney. However, i am a UK citizen and resident. If my partner applies for a business credit card, would i be eligible for a supplementary card? If so, can you recommend a card that can be used to pay ATO bills (ie Visa or Mastercard) and has excellent features for travel? Thanks
