The Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card with up to 100,000 Bonus Qantas Points

Prestige cards can vary greatly in their offerings. Some provide only a handful of convenient features, while others are jam-packed with extras. After checking out the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card, we’d have to say this card definitely falls into the latter category.

As a platinum rewards card, it offers a great earn rate, plus, new cardholders can benefit from up to 100,000 bonus Qantas Points and 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 18 months. And we haven’t even gotten started on all those lovely extras!

What we love...

First up, introductory offers. If you apply by 30 May 2019 for the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card and spend $3,500 in the first 90 days from approval you will be awarded with 70,000 bonus Qantas Points. Once the annual fee is paid on the anniversary of the card approval, a remaining 30,000 bonus points will be awarded (allow up to 12 weeks to get these points).

Those points can be spent in the Qantas Store on more than 3,000 products, experiences and vouchers, or on flights and upgrades, potentially getting you from Melbourne to Algiers for 60,000 points, or from Sydney to Istanbul for 55,000 points.

Next, the balance transfer offer. If you have existing credit card debt that you want to pay off, you could transfer it to the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card to enjoy 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 18 months.

Now, let’s move on to some of those fancy features and extras. As a cardholder, you will receive two invitations per year to selected Qantas Lounges, complete with complimentary food, beverages and Wi-Fi.

You can also enjoy discounted companion fares, where once a year, you can save up to 20% on selected domestic flights for you and up to eight companions.

On top of that, you could benefit from six months interest free on your first purchase of selected Qantas products and services, plus complimentary travel insurance for travel booked using your card.

What’s not so great...

When applying for a card such as the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card, it’s worth bearing in mind how much it will cost you. The annual fee for each year is significant at $299, plus, for each additional cardholder, you will pay $50 per year.

It’s also worth taking note of the earn rate on the card, as the domestic spend is tiered, so that you earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 up to $10,000 per statement period, then 0.5 Qantas Point per $1 thereafter.

Why should you choose this card?

The Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card obviously has plenty to offer – and if you take advantage of its features and rewards, it may be worth the outlay. In terms of rewards, you can earn 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 on your international spend, 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent in Australia up to $10,000 per statement period, and 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 thereafter.

You can also benefit from 1 additional Qantas Point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services, and there’s no points capping at home or overseas. Some other benefits worth mentioning include the Qantas Premier Concierge service, access to the Qantas Money app, and up to 55 days interest free on purchases.

Overall Rating

A platinum rewards card with excellent features and a great earn rate, offering up to 100,000 bonus points, 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 18 months. Offer ends 30 May 2019.

Hi Roland, sorry I don't know how to reply to your comment so I am adding a new one. If it works like that, then my conclusion is that if you have a balance transfer, you should not use the credit card for purchases, otherwise you will pay interest for the purchases, correct? So basically you should not use your card and if so, you will not accumulate the$3,500 spend to give you the 100.000 points of the promotion. My point is that it is not clear when you sign for it that you benefit will dismiss others. Very disappointing. :-(

Hi Jeanine, best practice is to not spend on a card when a balance transfer is active. This is based on the fact of no interest free days. In regards to this promotion, a small amount of interest is worth 100,000 points. What I suggest is that when you spend. You may a payment off the card the same day. This way you have minimum interest on the new purchases. If you have a larger purchase, such as a holiday. If you could make that to cover the $3,500. Then pay it off same day or close. Then this would be a great idea.

Hi Roland, I recently asked for this card and took advantage of the 18 months interest free balance transfer option and the 6 months interest free when buying a Qantas ticket. For my surprise, in the first month an interest free was charged to the card. I've called Qantas and they said that because I have the promotion of an interest free for my balance transfer, I cannot have the "promotion"of interest free for my purchases! How can they see it as a promotion if all credit cards have at least 30 days for you to pay your purchases? On top of it, any additional payment that I make goes to pay the balance transfer not the ticket that I bought. Which means that if I don't pay the balance transfer in 6 months, I will start paying interest for the ticket purchase! I felt so mislead. They said it is in the contract conditions. :-(

Hi Jeanine, any amount you pay off the card will always go to the highest amount first. Therefore if you have a 0% balance transfer for $5,000. Then make a new purchase for $1,000. Then make a payment of $1,200. Then the new purchase would be paid back. Then the last $200 would go off the balance transfer. I agree that if you have a promotion for 0% on 6 months on the Qantas purchase. This should stand even if you have a balance transfer active. I am not sure what the deal is there. Though generally, if you hold a balance. Then you will receive no interest free days on new purchases. Though the 6 months interest free when buying a Qantas ticket should be outside of this for sure. As long as you met all eligibility for the 6 months interest free. Hi Russell, you cannot make a payment at a bank though you can at Australia Post. These are the different ways you can make a payment: Make a one-off or recurring BPAY® payment from one of your financial institution accounts. Biller Code: 266536, then Ref: Your 16-digit card number. Sign-up for Easi-Pay to pay your bill automatically by direct debit. You can choose to pay the minimum payment due or the closing balance. Take your Qantas Premier credit card to any Australia Post office displaying the Bank@Post symbol, together with your cheque, EFTPOS or cash payment. Cheque payments are considered deposited on the day of processing but please allow 6 working days for cheque clearance. An over-the-counter fee applies and will be debited to your credit card account.

Hi Trevor, check out this link I found on the Qantas money site - https://www.qantasmoney.com/credit-cards/premier-platinum/features-and-benefits#two-lounge-invitations. Bottom line, here are the details. You’ll be entitled to 2 complimentary invitations after you activate your Qantas Premier credit card. You'll receive an email when your complimentary invitations are available, which can take up to 2 weeks to process for the first initial invitations. Each subsequent year on account anniversary, you’ll be eligible for 2 more, available within two weeks of account anniversary.

Hi Roland,A question about the extra 30,000 points.Does this mean you pay the $149 reduced fee to cover your first year, and pending you meeting the other criteria, you'll receive 70,000 QANTAS points. Then, on the 12 month anniversary you will be charged the full $299 annual fee and then you will receive the additional 30,000?Thanks.
