The NAB Rewards Classic Credit Card

With its current offering of 30,000 bonus NAB Rewards Points plus 0% p.a. on balance transfers for six months, the NAB Rewards Classic Credit Card certainly knows a thing or two about enticing offers. In the longer term, you can enjoy a decent earn rate on the NAB Rewards program, the ability to convert points to three popular frequent flyer programs, and some very nice extras on top.

What we love...

We love free stuff. Which is why we love the NAB Rewards Classic Credit Card’s bonus points offer. All you have to do to take advantage of 30,000 bonus NAB Rewards Points is spend $500 on everyday purchases within 60 days of account opening. Once you’ve made that spend, the points will be credited to your account, and you can do what you like with them.

Having teamed up with Air New Zealand’s Airpoints, Cathy Pacific’s Asia Miles and Virgin’s Velocity Frequent Flyer, NAB Rewards lets you convert your NAB Rewards Points to your choice of frequent flyer program. So, if you were to choose Air New Zealand’s frequent flyer program, you could swap your 30,000 bonus NAB Rewards Points for $150 Airpoints Dollars.

But, there’s more to NAB Rewards than frequent flyer redemption. Check out the NAB Rewards Store to find a huge range of gift cards, vouchers, homewares, technology and more, plus a whole host of travel options with Webjet. Want to redeem those 30,000 bonus points? To give you an idea of value, you could redeem them for $150 in gift cards.

As for everyday earning on the NAB Rewards Credit Card, it offers the following earn structure:

  • Earn 0.75 NAB Rewards Points for every $1 spent on everyday purchases,
  • Earn double points on purchases made in major department and hardware stores (including Myer, David Jones, Kmart, Target, Bunnings and Mitre 10),
  • Earn triple points with Webjet, when travelling overseas, or on overseas purchases made in Australia.

When it comes to frequent flyer points conversion, this is what you can expect from each of the partner programs:

  • 3,000 NAB Rewards Points equals 15 Airpoints Dollars
  • 3,000 NAB Rewards Points equals 1,000 Asia Miles
  • 3,000 NAB Rewards Points equals 1,500 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points

What’s not so great...

Before you apply for the NAB Rewards Credit Card, you need to weigh up the pros and cons. It’s worth noting that this card has a relatively high purchase rate and cash advance rate, which is not uncommon on rewards cards. To make sure you get the most out of the card and the rewards you earn, always clear your statement by the due date to avoid interest accruing.

If you choose to transfer existing credit card debt onto this card to take advantage of the balance transfer offer, know that there is a 2% balance transfer fee that will be added to your overall balance after the transfer has been made. And, if you don’t manage to pay off the transferred balance within six months, the unpaid amount will revert to the cash advance rate.

Why should you choose this card?

If you’re looking for a rewards cards that offers a decent earn rate but doesn’t cost the earth in annual fees, the NAB Rewards Credit Card could be for you. The annual fee on this card is reasonable – for a rewards card – and you can choose to add one additional cardholder at no extra cost. This has the added bonus of allowing you to earn points faster.

Aside from its rewards program, the card has a few nice features on offer. As a cardholder, you can benefit from advance ticket sales with Visa Front Line access, plus up to 44 days interest free on purchases (as long as you don’t have a balance transfer to pay off), and a low minimum credit limit of $500, if you happen to be a small spender.

Overall Rating

Offering an easy way to earn rewards on the NAB Rewards program, the NAB Rewards Credit Card features an affordable annual fee, a few handy extras, 0% on balance transfers for six months and 30,000 bonus NAB Rewards Points.
