The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Credit Card

After having spent some time investigating rewards cards to find out what they have to offer, it’s quite likely you’re more confused now than when you started.

With different earn rates on offer, different rewards programs to choose from, and different fees to take into account, comparing rewards cards can become somewhat bewildering.

Luckily, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Credit Card keeps things simple, while also allowing you to choose between two different rewards programs.

This means you can choose the rewards program that you like best, while taking advantage of all the easy-to-understand features the card has to offer.

Let’s dig a little deeper to find out more.

What we love...

On to the rewards program. As we said, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Credit Card lets you choose between two rewards programs, so you can either earn and redeem points on the Amplify program or the Qantas program.

If you opt for the Amplify program, you can earn 1 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases, with no points capping.

These points can be redeemed on frequent flyer programs such as Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programs, or alternatively, you could choose to redeem your points for gift cards, retail vouchers, homewares, travel and more.

On the other hand, if you think you would get more from the Qantas program, you could earn 0.5 Qantas Point per $1 spent on all eligible purchases, again, with no points capping.

These points can be redeemed for flights and upgrades with Qantas and its 35 partner airlines, or you could choose from more than 3,000 products, experiences and vouchers from the Qantas Store.

What’s not so great...

Take note that on this card, the cash advance rate and purchase rate are both relatively high.

Why should you choose this card?

With all that in mind, you should be able to decide whether this card is right for you. But, to help you make your decision easier, here are few other redeeming features you might find useful.

As a cardholder, your annual fee is pretty reasonable, plus you can benefit from up to 55 days interest free on purchases, while one free additional cardholder could help you rack up rewards points faster. Fraud monitoring and contactless payments come as standard.

Overall Rating

A low-end rewards card that provides two rewards programs to choose from and a decent earn rate.

Hi David, you can transfer all the balance of your current non-St George issued cards. Where the limitation is, you can only transfer up to 95% of your new approved limit. Therefore if you are approved for a $10,000 limit. Then you can transfer up to $9,500.

Roland, can I have credit card balance transfer while I am semiretired?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    27 June 2016
Hi Boris, yes it is possible but will depend on your own personal financial situation. Many people receive income from their Superfund and may also receive a part pension. In the end it comes down to your credit history, your income v expenses and a range of other factors. If your credit card debt is non-St George group and you have good credit, then its worth applying to see how it goes. Best of luck with your application. Another option, if you have a mortgage, is to move the debt to this. Aka pay off your card with your home loan which may be another good option.
