⚠ Important changes to ANZ's credit card insurance policies: ANZ is making changes to the complimentary insurances on its credit cards which will take effect from 7 June 2024. A summary of the upcoming changes can be found here.

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card

Providing plenty of platinum perks and a very appealing introductory offer, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card is a platinum card that lets you earn Qantas Points as you shop. Apply today and you could benefit from 75,000 bonus Qantas Points and $100 back on your card by spending $2,500 on eligible purchases within 3 months of being approved.

What we love...

Love travel? The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card may indeed be the perfect card for you. Allowing you to earn Qantas Points on your everyday spending, this card could let you travel further, while paying less. And with 75,000 bonus Qantas Points currently on offer to new cardholders who meet the spend criteria, you could travel even further than you thought.

All you need to do to be eligible for this offer is be approved as a new cardholder (you cannot currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in your name in the past 12 months). Then spend $2,500 on eligible purchases within three months and the bonus points are yours.

Within three months of making that eligible $2,500 spend on purchases, the 75,000 bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your account. To give you an idea of the value of those bonus points, here’s what you could choose to redeem them for:

  • For 66,200 Qantas Points, you could fly from Sydney to Paris and 55,200 points will get you from Perth to New York.
  • Or, you could opt for some retail therapy, redeeming 50,050 Qantas Points for a $250 David Jones gift card.

Point calculations are accurate as of 23 February 2024 but may be subject to change without notice. All routes may have additional taxes and charges. Check on the official ANZ page for the updated calculations.

On a day-to-day basis, it’s easy to earn Qantas Points on your spending. The points you earn will be automatically credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account, and if you don’t have an account, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card will provide you with complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership.

You can earn 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent up to $3,000 per statement period, and 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent thereafter. You can also earn 1 bonus Qantas Point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services, as well as bonus points with ANZ’s Bonus Partners. There is no limit on the number of bonus points you can earn within each statement period.

What’s not so great...

As you will usually find with platinum credit cards, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card has a relatively high purchase rate and cash advance rate. So, to make all the rewards and features on offer worthwhile, you will have to avoid interest accruing by clearing your balance by the due date each month.

Again, similar to many other platinum rewards cards, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card has a high standard ongoing annual fee. You can choose to add up to nine additional cardholders, but be aware that an annual fee will be charged for each. On top of that, some cardholders may not be that impressed with the card’s earn rate. Although, the value of that earn rate will depend on your spending.

Why should you choose this card?

As a platinum rewards card earning Qantas Points, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card is the ideal option for anyone who wants to earn on the Qantas program while enjoying some nice platinum perks on the side. In terms of features, the card offers the following complimentary insurance covers:

  • International Travel Insurance for up to a period of 6 consecutive months. Available to cardholders as well as their spouses and/or dependant(s), eligibility criteria apply.
  • Domestic Travel Insurance with a return domestic flight of up to 28 days per trip. Available to cardholders as well as their spouses and/or dependant(s), eligibility criteria apply.
  • Rental Vehicle Excess In Australia Insurance up to a maximum total limit of $5,000.
  • Extended Warranty Insurance for up to 12 months after the original manufacturer’s Australian warranty expires.
  • Purchase Protection Insurance for 90 consecutive days from the date of purchase.

You can also benefit from the assistance of a Personal Concierge, available 24/7 to help with anything from travel arrangements to restaurant reservations, plus access to exclusive entertainment and lifestyle offers through Visa Offers + Perks, and up to 55 days interest free on purchases.

Overall Rating

With a decent earn rate and an array of platinum features, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Credit Card allows you to earn Qantas Points on everyday purchases, while taking advantage of 75,000 bonus Qantas Points and a nice $100 credit that helps offset the annual fee.

    13 October 2023
Hi Prashanth, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card is different from the ANZ Rewards Platinum card. And looks like you may be eligible as the terms and conditions of the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card indicate that the current offer is open to new and approved ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum cardholders.

Hi Tania, payments to the ATO are still categorised as government transactions and are unfortunately, not considered eligible transactions. You may want to explore alternative credit card options that offer rewards on ATO payments.

1. What are considered "eligible" purchases 2. Are all cardholders eligible for the Travel Insurance Etc?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    20 June 2023
Hi Sharon, please see below for my answers to your questions. - bank issuers, such as ANZ do not provide a published list of eligible transactions, but they do provide a list of transactions that are not considered eligible. These include government charges, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, fees, charges, and interests. - the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card does have various complimentary insurance covers, one of which is international and domestic travel insurance. To obtain a comprehensive list of insurance coverage, T&Cs, as well as exclusions, you can refer to ANZ's official PDS for complimentary insurance. Hope this helps!

What do you mean by eligible purchases and do you have to do anything to get travel insurance.
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    28 March 2023
Hi Donald, there isn't a specific list of what types of transactions are considered eligible, but typically they are your regular everyday transactions. These can include things like paying for meals at a restaurant, shopping at Coles or Woolies, or filling up your car with petrol. Basically, anything that is processed as a retail transaction. However, ANZ's official website notes that certain transactions like balance transfers, government-related transactions, and cash transactions are not eligible.

What are eligible purchases to be awarded 70,000 points
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    28 March 2023
Hi Don, annoyingly, credit card issuers don’t list transactions that are considered eligible. But eligible purchases are generally classified as your day to day retail transactions. These could be paying for your car’s petrol, your pet’s vet bill, restaurant bill, etc. However, it states that transactions like interests, charges, balance transfers, cash equivalent and government related transactions are not considered eligible.

Is there extra cover required on existing health conditions.
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    24 March 2023
Hi Stuart, we’re going to get a bit direct here as things like travel insurance can get real tricky, real fast. So, the complimentary travel insurance that comes with the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card does not cover any claims arising from, related to or associated with a pre-existing medical condition unless it meets the conditions set out on their T&Cs so an extra insurance will be necessary if you want any costs associated with your pre-existing medical condition to be covered. We’re not travel insurance experts so it’s worth contacting Allianz Global Assistance at 1300 135 271 to see if they can add-on such coverage for you. I hope this helps.

    10 March 2023
Hi Shane, according to ANZ, the bonus Qantas points will be credited to your Qantas account within 3 months of meeting the spend requirement. As part of your application process you should have been prompted to put in your QFF number. If you can’t remember, you can call ANZ directly at 13 13 14 to check on the status of your bonus points.

I currenty have an NAB visa that accrues velocity points and a QANTAS premier card. I want to consolidate and get one that accrues qantas points, preferably with a decent sign-on bonus. Hoping to keep my annual fee lower if possible but it's not a deal breaker. Any ideas on which one my best option is?? Thanks Leigh
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    22 December 2022
Hi Leigh, it’s rare that issuers offer a card that’s low in annual fee and sign-on bonus at the same time as you pay for the privilege of points with the annual fee. Jump on over to our Qantas frequent flyer cards page and you can sort by annual fee. However, if you’re thinking of doing a balance transfer, you won’t accrue any points on the transfer. To add to that, if you spend on your new card to get the bonus points, you’ll end up with no interest free days. If you still want to consolidate your two cards, you can compare some of the 0% and low balance transfer cards for more options. Hope this helped!

Hi Jane, thanks for your message. We have a page that can help you compare corporate credit cards including the benefits, drawbacks and how they differ from business credit cards. We currently don’t have an active partnership with Westpac credit cards, but they have a range of BusinessChoice cards that might suit your needs. If it’s a specific corporate credit card you need, the Westpac site suggests contacting your “Product Specialist” to speak about their Commercial card program. Hope this has helped!
