American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Card Bundle with up to 110,000 bonus Altitude Points

Dual card power! Excellent points earning potential, one application, two cards - one Mastercard issued by Westpac and one American Express card issued and serviced by American Express. Massive bonus points offer with up to 110,000 Altitude points.

What we love...

It is hard to go past the introductory bonus points offer of up to 110,000 Altitude points. The American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Bundle require a spend criteria to be met on each card to be eligible for this offer. After you have applied and been approved for this two-card bundle offer, before the first 90 days of card approval you need to have spent $3,000 on the Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard on eligible purchases to get 80,000 bonus Altitude Points. To get a further 30,000 bonus Altitude Points you need to spend $3,000 on the American Express® Westpac Altitude Platinum Card within 90 days of Card approval.

Second would be having the option to use the American Express for higher points earn when needed and the flexibility of spending with a Mastercard. Any spend in foreign currency earn more points and as for other perks, there are complimentary insurances like overseas travel, transit accident, purchase security and extended warranty.

Let’s look at the annual fee of $199 and break it down. $150 is for the Mastercard and $49 is for the Amex card per year. The annual fee on the Amex card is waived the first year.

What’s not so great...

As with other rewards cards it comes with a high purchase rate and high cash advance rate. Be sure you pay off any purchases before you start paying any interest. There is worth noting there is no balance transfer offer if you need to move over debt from another credit card provider.

This card doesn’t come with lounge access. If you are looking for this check out the American Express Westpac Altitude Black Card Bundle

Why should you choose this card?

Apart from the great introductory bonus points offer this card comes with a reasonable annual fee and the flexibility of a Mastercard and American Express card. Earn up to 3 Altitude Points using the cards.

Earn Rate Mastercard: Altitude Points earn rate on eligible purchases, uncapped:

  • Earn 3 Altitude points per dollar spent up to $10,000 per calendar month on flights purchased in Australia directly with Qantas, Jetstar, and Virgin Australia, then 1 point per $1 spent thereafter.
  • Earn 2 Altitude Points per dollar spent on overseas spend and with Spotify Premium, Uber, Uber Eats and AirBnb.
  • Earn 1 Altitude Point per dollar spent on all other everyday eligible purchases.

Overall Rating

A great rewards program, dual credit cards for added convenience and a great bonus points offer.

Hi Manjula, there are 3 no annual fee AMEX cards - The best one for you will depend on the rewards you want to gain. Qantas Discovery - earns Qantas points and would be my favourite. If you fly Virgin or want to earn Velocity points then the Velocity Escape would be the one. The last is the AMEX essential. This is my least favourite as I feel the points value in both other cards are worth more. Though this gives you flexibility to transfer the points to a range of airline partners (not inc Qantas).

i have a westpac card the black card. can i change over to the westpac and Amex bundle and transfer the yearly charge for the mastercard to the new bundle

Hi Judith, I would reach out directly to Westpac credit card customer service. Basically they are 2 seperate cards and the annual fees are billed within each of them. They call it a bundle but the AMEX Card is issued by American Express. Therefore I believe the process would be just to apply for the AMEX card ontop of your current card. If you can spend a good amount on your AMEX each year then it may be worth getting the Qantas Ultimate which has higher points earning.

When will the 75,000 qantas frequent flyers points become available to use?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    9 August 2018
Hi Tim, the 75k Qantas points will be added to your points balance within 12 weeks once you meet the eligible spend criteria. I have seen it happen much quicker but this is the general terms provided by the Westpac. I had applied for a card with a different issuer which had the same time-frame. I had the points credited in around 3 weeks from meeting the spend requirement. I met the spend requirement within a few days of receiving the card to get the bonus points credited as soon as possible.

Can I close only one card and keep the other one when getting this Westpac Altitude Platinum Card Bundle?

Hi Anne, the cards are separately issued. I am sure it is possible to do so. You would need to make sure in the least that you receive all the bonus points before doing so.
