If you have been shopping around for a credit card which is just right for you, you will have noticed by now that you can often find a good points earning card or a low fee credit card, but there are very few which will do both. Read More ›
That is where the Woolworths Qantas credit card comes in to fill that niche. The Woolworths Qantas credit card offers you the affordability and great value which mirrors a successful grocery run, while also giving you the great earn rate for Qantas Frequent Flyer points – i.e. 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer Point for every $1 spent everywhere Mastercard is accepted, at a relatively low annual fee of $89 (compared to most similar cards in the market).
This card is also especially good for people that shop at Woolworths or partner stores. This MasterCard competes directly against much higher annual fee rewards cards.
Earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points at a great rate. Use the Woolworths Qantas credit card everywhere you can to earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 you spend on most purchases. Shop, eat out, pay your bills and watch your Frequent Flyer points balance grow. There’s no points cap and points don’t expire while your Frequent Flyer account stays active.
The Woolworths Qantas Frequent Flyer card offers great rewards earning potential. The fact is you receive the benefits of the usual Woolworths reward program with additional points for using your credit card on transactions. Buying things like fuel, electronics and housewares can also earn you points when you shop at the partner stores, and bonus points on special in store offers in Woolworths. The 16,000 bonus QFF points offer at the moment means great value for money.

Good earning - 1 point for $1 spent everywhere. You dont need to just shop in Woolies but shopping there does get you extras. For a rewards card the annual fee is low as well. If trying to save points they dont expire and you dont get capped - awesome.

Hi – I have tried to sign up for this card a couple of time, but I get an error message saying that the Qantas FF details I entered do not match those on the number I provided. I have doubled checked this and they do, however, the application will not let me proceed without this step.
What is the contact number for this credit card? And is there another method of applying?
Cheers
Tom

Hi Dr H, you’ll need to call them and check up on that. The contact number is 1300 10 1234.

Hey Tom, thanks for that info. For the record, I contacted our bank today who said paying a mortgage with a credit card is illegal as you can’t pay credit with credit. In saying that, she did say that you could use the card and pay the monthly mortgage as a BPay payment instead. Would you still earn f/flyer points on a BPay payment?
Tom
May 9th, 2013 at 9:16am
Hi Ben, I’m told that you can earn the points this way – your bank needs to be set up and registered as a BPay biller in order to do so.

I have had a wool everyday rewards card for less than 12 months. I have just received a dvice that this card will be cancelled. No reason given I assume it is due to paying work related ATO accounts to earn qFF points. Have you had this issue previously. What other card options are available with no cap.

Hi Bruce, we haven’t come across your problem – I’m afraid I can’t comment. You can look here to compare points earning opportunities by card

Where does the $89 annual fee come into it? I thought it was for the ‘platinum’ card only?
Tom
May 7th, 2013 at 2:55pm
Hi Ben, it is classed as a platinum card by Woolworths. The high annual fee is probably on account of the high flyer point earning ratio, 1 point per $1 dollar spent.

We would like to use this card to pay all of our monthly bills (utilities etc) as well as our monthly mortgage repayments. Do we earn f/flyer points by doing so? Thanks.
Tom
May 7th, 2013 at 3:09pm
Hi Ben, we believe you can earn points paying bills. Not government fees or charges however. The mortgage payments – you need to check if your home loan provider accepts card payments or not. You should be able to earn points doing both.

April 29th, 2013 at 4:48pm
Hi Lea – that sounds great, you would just need to re-apply for a card. Do be aware that if you want to transfer a balance from another credit card you wouldn’t be able to get the same rate as advertised. Also if you have a current HSBC credit card you won’t be eligible for the balance transfer rate. It may depend on why you closed your other account whether or not you experience any issues with your application, so it could be worth checking your credit history and checking any issues with the bank before applying here.

I was previously a member but required to cease using the card. I would like to regain the use of this card once again. I believe you would have all my info but would like to see if I can just pick up where I was. I paid the card in full at the time and I believe my credit rating is A1

Hi Leanne – we do not capture personal information from application forms as you are taken directly to the bank’s secure application form when you click through. You could easily start another application though. Otherwise you would need to contact the bank directly.

If I apply for this credit card, can i link it to someone else’s everyday reward/qantas?
Roland
April 23rd, 2013 at 8:51am
Hi Sandy, you can become an additional cardholder on someone else’s existing Woolworths EDR or Qantas credit card, but this entitles you to redeem fuel saving vouchers only, not Qantas frequent flyer points or other benefits. You don’t need to apply here to become an additional cardholder, the primary account holder would need to request you be added with Woolworths/HSBC directly. If you wish to apply for this card and have someone else become an additional cardholder on your account you could certainly do that from here.

Hi,
I can see you have answered a question saying business purchases are not eligible. Does that mean we can’t use this card to pay for business purchases or does that just mean we don’t earn frequent flyer points on these purchases? If so, what is the best rewards card we can use for business purposes? Thanks
Roland
April 8th, 2013 at 9:50am
Hi Karla – this only means that you won’t earn points on purchases which are ultimately business expenses (so, for example, paying a utility bill in the business’s name etc). These purchases are fine to make with the card, but won’t earn frequent flyer points. Your general expenses while away, for example dinner out or groceries, would not be counted as business expenses. If you are interested in a business credit card, you could check out the options on our business credit card page, or if it is still mainly for your personal use and you are interested in earning frequent flyer points, perhaps check out our frequent flyer table and see which card will help you earn more frequent flyer points

does this card offer complementary travel insurance?
Roland
March 27th, 2013 at 8:58am
Hi RGaness, this card does not offer travel insurance, but it does have card repayment protection insurance. This means you can have your repayments guaranteed if you are unable to pay them for a certain period of time or up to a certain amount.

Can you check your balance anywhere and do you receive statements?
Roland
March 12th, 2013 at 9:23am
Hi Carly, you can login to your account on the Woolworths Money page once your account and card are set up. This lets you see your balance and statements, pay bills, setup direct debits, change your pin and access info and monitor transactions. Checking your balance at an ATM may incur a transaction fee.

If I open this card and transfer a balance from Bankwest does the original card get automatically cancelled? with thanks
Roland
March 8th, 2013 at 8:42am
Hi Alison, no your original card will not be cancelled. You would need to allow the transfer to happen so the balance is on your new card, then make sure any applicable fees or charges etc are cleared up and request the card be closed with Bankwest. This usually involves a phone call and you may receive a final statement. Hope that helps!

If you pay your credit card out within the 55 days to zero then make another purchase the next day still within that original 55 days is that new amount charged to the card part of a new 55 day period or can we not spend anything until after that original 55 day period is over?
Roland
March 7th, 2013 at 3:46pm
Hi Rebecca this depends on how close to the payment due date you paid off your balance. The longer into your statement period you make the purchase, the less interest free days you actually get. The 55-day period starts from the date you make a purchase, so if we’ve understood your example correctly the interest free days on the second purchase would expire on the payment due date, which could be one, two or three weeks from the transaction date depending. However long you have until payment is due would be the interest free period in this case.

Hi!
Where it says you get an extra point per dollar spend over $30 at Woolworths – does that mean you get 31 points for $31 spent or 1 point for the point over $30?
Roland
March 7th, 2013 at 3:52pm
Hi Rebecca, it would actually be 32 points per $31 spend (you get the double point on that last dollar). Every dollar beyond the $30 earns you 2 points, as long as it’s a participating Woolies group store – and an eligible purchase, i.e not tobacco or gambling products, not BigW goft cards and not some online purchases, DVD Kiosk purchases or freight charges. That’s all spelled out in the terms and conditions when you click through to the card’s own page. Hope that makes sense?

Are BPAY transactions and government agencies payments excluded from earning points?
Roland
March 7th, 2013 at 4:02pm
Hi Frank, according to the terms and conditions on the page for this card points can’t be earned on business expenses, government charges, interest charges and nterest free promotions, balance transfers and cash advances. You can see more about ineligible transactions on p.64 of the conditions of use document. Hope that helps!

Do you earn qantas frequent flyer points each time you use your credit card or do you only earn points when you shop at woolworths?
Roland
March 6th, 2013 at 9:12am
Hi Dawn, points are earned on eligible purchases anywhere, not just at Woolworths, but you do get extra points for shopping with partner retailers and on in-store promotions etc. Our customer reviews under this card also discuss this. Hope that helps!

Hi, understand this is a Qantas Frequent Flyer card but does that mean we have to purchase Qantas flights or are the points eligible to use on other airlines?
Roland
February 27th, 2013 at 9:33am
Hi Polly, Qantas Frequent Flyer points can be redeemed with Qantas flights, Jetstar flights or 30 other partner airlines in their network. You can check which airlines are part of the network on the frequent flyer site: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/partners/airline
Hope that helps!

Are there any insurances? Travel, purchases etc.?
Thank-you.
Roland
February 26th, 2013 at 4:26pm
Hi, in the terms and conditions from the link there are no specific extra insurances included. This is a platinum card, however it is designed to help cardholders earn air miles and take advantage ePump discounts etc rather than providing free travel insurance.

Do I have to pay extra to connect to the Qantas ff club
Roland
February 26th, 2013 at 4:29pm
Hi Sue, no the Qantas Frequent Flyer membership fee (usually $82.50) is waived under the current offer. This may change at any time, however. Also don’t forget there is still an annual fee of $89 with this card, separate to membership of the Qantas Frequent Flyer club. hope that helps!

February 10th, 2013 at 1:18pm
is the annual fee paid at the beginning or at the end of the first year?
Roland
February 12th, 2013 at 11:34am
Hi Alex, the annual fee is debited on the first statement you receive when you get the card, so that will depend what month your application is approved. Hope that helps.

February 5th, 2013 at 7:59pm
Hi Roland on transfers from another credit card , do you get the bonus frequent flyer points?
Cheers Bruce
Roland
February 14th, 2013 at 2:12pm
Hi Bruce, unfortunately eligible purchases do not include balance transfers, so the balance transfer won’t earn 16 000 points. Bear in mind that the points can only be accrued on purchases which are eligible as per clause 1 of the terms and conditions. The terms and conditions do state that you have to be an Everyday Rewards member as well as a Qantas Frequent Flyer member to be able to collect the points, and they tell you when you have to make the first purchase using the card to earn points under the offer too. You can join the Qantas Frequent Flyer program at the same time as you apply for this card. Hope that helps!

Hi – I’m over on a 457 Visa f or 4 years. Can I still apply?
Roland
February 5th, 2013 at 2:51pm
Hi Chris,
There are a limited number of providers and issuers who allow temporary visa holders to apply. Unfortunately Woolworths is not one of them. HSBC (Credit provider for Woolworths) does allow people with 457 visa’s to apply.

Hi Elise, according to the Woolworths site it is any purchase – it only excludes interest free promotions, balance transfers, business expenses and cash advances. Remember the purchase will attract interest if the resulting balance isnt paid for within the payment period.
