The St.George Vertigo Platinum Credit Card

So you want a card with a low purchase rate? Okay, that’s reasonable. You want platinum perks as well? That may be pushing it a little. Now we know you’re dreaming!

Actually, no. Getting all of those things on one card is possible. Just check out the St.George Vertigo Platinum Credit Card. While platinum cards tend to have higher purchase rates, this platinum offering has a low variable rate of 12.99% p.a. – which just happens to be St.George’s lowest rate on purchases.

What else do you get? Well, there is a whole heap of platinum benefits and an amazing offer.

Interested? Let’s take a closer look.

What we love...

What’s not to love about that low purchase rate? In the long term, having a card with a low rate can certainly help you save money on interest. However, it also has another benefit.

What’s not so great...

It’s worth pointing out the card’s ongoing annual fee is $99. While this is relatively low for a platinum card, it’s still quite a lot to pay out for a credit card. To make it worthwhile, just make sure you’re making the most of the platinum benefits – and that you’re paying off the balance of the card before interest starts accruing.

Why should you choose this card?

Want platinum perks? You got it! The card provides you with a whole host of complimentary insurance covers perfect for the frequent traveller – and the frequent shopper. In terms of travel cover, the card provides overseas travel insurance, domestic flight inconvenience insurance and transit accident insurance. As for retail cover, the card offers price guarantee cover, purchase cover insurance and extended warranty insurance.

Anything else? Sure. You can enjoy up to 55 days interest free on purchases, and up to three additional cardholders at no extra cost.

Overall Rating

As a low rate platinum card this card combines a fantastic low purchase rate, and platinum perks.

Good Balance Transfer period. Poor Customer Service though. St George Stuffed up our Mailing address, which is a Privacy issue for Financial Statements being sent to who knows who. Also we Declined Future Credit Limit increase offers But St George Still put the account on Accepting Limit Increase Offers. All these issues were eventually rectified Only once We found them and Contacted St George, who had no real explanations and Refunded our Annual Fee to assist in us not contacting FOS and providing these examples of POOR Banking/CREDIT practices.

Does the vertigo credit card cover covid related insurance claims and for how much. This is in relationship to over seas travel to Bali. Thanks Graeme.

    19 April 2022
Hi Graeme, there isn’t any complimentary credit card travel insurance that covers COVID, they all exclude pandemics and endemics. Unfortunately, this card is no longer available for application and we no longer have access to it. I strongly recommend reaching out to Allianz the underwriter or St.George for specifics.

What is the rewards program connected to the Vertigo Platinum credit card?
    Pauline - CreditCard.com.au

    Pauline

    18 February 2022
Hi Nina, the St.George Vertigo Platinum does not have a rewards program linked to it. The appeal of the Vertigo was its low interest rate and complimentary insurances. This card is also no longer available for application. However, if you are looking to get a St.George credit card, you can use our comparison tool to see the different cards they have available that we have access to. We also have a rewards credit card comparison tool that you can check if you’re keen on getting a rewards credit card. Make sure you meet the requirements in the card’s T&C’s and read the TMD before applying.

What is the turn around time for application approval. I just canceled an application with CBA as they didn't respond for over six weeks.

Hi Vijay, 6 weeks is huge, what was the issue why it was taking so long? St.George are good at processing credit cards. Typically its around 5 business days though Christmas could be longer.

Hi, I'm wanting to open a 0% interest credit card now however I don't want to use it until December. Will the months count from the first day I open the card or the first purchase?
    Roland B Bleyer - CreditCard.com.au Founder

    Roland

    28 September 2020
Hi Sophia, it will be from the first day you open the card, not when you make your first spend. There should be 0% purchase offers still available at that time. Though its always good to prepare in case some issue happens with the application.
