About Sydney Mutual Bank

One interesting fact about Sydney Mutual Bank is that it merged with a Ukrainian credit union, called the Karpaty Foundation, in January 2010. You can view more about the Karpaty Foundation on the Sydney Mutual Bank website.

Sydney Mutual Bank's History

Sydney Mutual Bank (SCU) was established in 1963 and the directors then wanted to start a company to protect and promote the financial wellbeing of employees of the City of Sydney Council. Borrowing funds from the banks was restrictive according to them, so they resolved to offer Sydney Mutual Bank members a new and competitive solution.

In the beginning only personal loans or lending and basic call savings were available with Sydney Mutual Bank, but today the all personal retail banking services are available to members.

Hi Sarah, you’re right there is an SCU Credit Union in America, but there also was one in Australia. In 2019 it was bought by the Australian Mutual Bank. We’ve kept this page up as a reference point for anyone who is interested. Apologies for any confusion from this page.

Hi Tanya, you’ve actually landed on Creditcard.com.au. SCU Credit Union actually has a few branches(Foxboro, Sharon, Mansfield, etc.). You can check their official page for a list of locations or reach out to them directly at 1-877-661-3300. If you’re looking for the old “Sydney Credit Union” who rebranded to Australian Mutual Bank, you can find them in Bankstown Central Shopping Centre.
