This is an amazing exclusive offer from Citibank and continues to be one of our most popular due to the long 0% rate on balance transfer and low rate on purchases. This BT is a great chance to get your finances back on track - open an account and pay the balance off as much as possible before the 9 months is over. You have to be disciplined here - make it worth it! Be aware though - once the BT period has ended it moves to the cash advance rate - which is high. In the first year you also pay a low annual fee of $49.
Outside this its also a good value everyday card. The purchase rate is low, you get a platinum concierge to help you make arrangements and bookings, Citibank world privileges program meaning discounts worldwide on hotels, restuarants etc + you get a free bottle of wine at restaurants on Citi's partner program. A few meals a year and the annual fee is covered!

This is one of the best cards I\'ve ever had. The balance transfer deal was great and now I\'ve managed to pay off what I transferred. Can\'t believe how low the interest rate and the annual fees are for a platinum card. It has a whole heap of extras too. Couldn\'t be happier.

Hi I am on a 457 visa with 3 years left in which time I will get residency I am currently still using my Irish credit card and to transfer payments home each time is $25 I need to transfer my balance to an Australian card is this possible on my visa?
Tom

Hi Ciara, see here for card options on a 457 visa, there are some Aussie options available to you, however I don’t believe you can transfer a balance from outside Australia to any bank.

Can this card be in joint names???
My husband has a credit card with Citibank of which I also have a card as a secondary holder, can we transfer the amount owing, with his authority to this card.
Tom
May 9th, 2013 at 4:23pm
Hi Trudy, if it remains in the same names yes. However if you’ve had the current Citibank card for less than 9 months they won’t likely let you make a balance transfer to a new Citibank card. Might be worth giving them a call to check if you have any doubts.

Hi, If approved, does citibank arrange the transfer from the old credit card provider?
Tom
May 9th, 2013 at 9:19am
Hi Susan, when an application is made you add in the details of the credit card and the balance you want transferred, and Citibank will pay it and transfer it over to them if its approved.

Roland

Hi Brooke this card is not attached to a rewards program, but you can view the rewards cards table to see those that are. With this card you get additional insurances and a concierge service. Hope that helps!

After the 9 months interest free can we transfer to another bank or are we locked into it?
Roland
April 22nd, 2013 at 8:21am
Hi Chuol, there is no set time that you are required to keep the card open. You can pay off the balance at any time and request that the account be closed, but before you do you should consider the impact that may have on your credit rating, consider whether you are going to need the card at all moving forward, and if you choose another credit card is it one with a better deal? For further information, you can either check out our blog or on websites such as MoneySmart (moneysmart.gov.au). Hope that helps!

Roland

How long does the travel insurance last for?
Once the balance transfer is paid off at zero interest does any purchase I make is it at the 11.99%pa interest rate apply
Roland
April 19th, 2013 at 8:04am
Hi Toni – the travel insurance lasts up to 6 months, but it will no longer be available on Citibank Clear Platinum cards after September 15, 2013 so you would need to book your trip by then, and other trips after that would not be covered by this card. Other Citibank cards that will still have this cover are the Citibank Select, Rewards Signature, and Emirates Citibank Platinum cards.
You are correct about the purchase rate – 11.99% on new purchases after the balance transfer period is paid off.

Is there a fee to cancel the card within the first year?
Roland
April 17th, 2013 at 8:08am
Hi Leva, there is no cancellation fee per se but you should be aware that you will be receiving requests for payment etc until there is no outstanding balance remaining on the card (including fees payable), so effectively it can be cancelled when the debt is paid off. For some further information, and to help you understand what you should be thinking about when closing a card, please take a look at this article we wrote on it. Hope that helps!

Hi,
Can I balance transfer $10k which is the maximum limit on my current cc to the Citibank cc? I’m a little confused by the 80% transfer limit… Does it mean I can only get $8k transferred over?
Your help is appreciated!
Roland
April 15th, 2013 at 8:51am
Hi Sal, you can transfer 80% of your allowed credit limit up to a maximum of $10K, so in effect, to transfer your whole balance ($10K) you’d need to request the extra credit limit to allow for the full $10K – which would be a minimum of $12K. That will give you the 20% buffer, and means your balance transfer is still for $10K or under. You would only do this if you actually owed the full $10K on your other card, not just because that is your old credit limit. If you are in doubt you can check with one of the many balance transfer calculators online (just do a google search) and see what will work for you. You should always consider any impact that requesting a higher credit limit might have on your credit file, which you can read about on websites like ours or ASIC’s MoneySmart (moneysmart.gov.au). Best of luck with it!

Hi Roland thanks for your quick response although i am still confused , i travel a lot and the point accumulation is needed and i run a business and put quite a lot through my card i also need the lowest interest rate because my debit usually fluctuates between 2000 and 23000 and up until now i thought if i paid the minimum due payment no interest was charged only the annual fee. Im feeling a bit ripped off here what do you recommend ?
Roland
April 11th, 2013 at 8:42am
Hi Peter, ah yes that is understandable you would feel cheated if you just discovered that you pay interest after paying the minimum payment. The only way to avoid paying interest is to pay your statement in full each month, so it depends how difficult this would be for you to do, i.e whether you can juggle your expenses and the way you pay some of them to make this work. If you are spending at least $2000 per month and putting that amount on a rewards credit card (then paying it all off of course) then you should be getting at least some benefit from the points you accumulate. Spending way more than that and not paying it all off will mean you are paying more in interest though. It seems like it is probably best to speak to your accountant/financial planner to deal with your current expenses in the most efficient way and limit what you put on your credit card. In the mean time, if you do a balance transfer you will have the six months interest free to get your current debt down, which should also help and you can be much more careful going forward now you know the situation. The Citibank Clear Platinum card does already have one of the lowest interest rates around, 11.99% for purchases, there are probably only 2 other options which have a lower rate and they won’t have rewards points options. If you’re interested in those, check out the low rate table for other options, but many of these may not come with rewards points attached.

which ailine do the points go to and how many etc
Roland
April 10th, 2013 at 4:32pm
Hi Peter, with Citibank you can transfer points to Virgin, Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines frequent flyer programs, but you will have to be a member of the airline’s program separately. Conversion rates are 1.5:1, 2:1 and 1.5:1 respectively. We’ve written a really useful table showing you the conversion of rewards points to ff points for major providers’ cards, so why not see the full story and take a look at the table

can I transfer my balance and get a top up as well
Roland
April 10th, 2013 at 8:51am
Hi Kim, you can transfer a balance onto this card, so long as it’s not from another Citibank card, but we’re not sure what you mean by getting a top up. If you mean can you request a higher credit limit, you are allowed to request your own credit limit when you fill in the application form if you know how much you need, but do be aware that the bank will only approve a credit limit based on what it thinks you can afford. If you are requesting an additional credit limit you should keep in mind your existing card debts, whether you will be closing any other cards etc, what repayments you can afford and what impact it will have on your credit file (especially if the bank was to reject the application because the credit limit requested is too high). We can recommend having a look at free financial advice services, such as the ASIC MoneySmart website, or speaking to a professional and discussing what you want extra funds for if you are considering increasing your credit limit. Remember there may be other ways to get the extra funds without compromising your successful balance transfer.

We have a credit card with a balance of 24 thousand dollars under westpac . What criteria do we need to be eligible for a transfer to Citibank clear
Roland
April 9th, 2013 at 9:03am
Hi Gale, you will be assessed according to Citibank’s own lending criteria, and with this card the maximum you will be able to balance transfer is $10,000 (but you may be awarded a higher total credit limit than that). Hope that helps!
Julie
April 7th, 2013 at 6:54pm
What is the maximum available on this card offer
Roland
April 8th, 2013 at 9:35am
Hi Julie, if you are referring to the credit limit available, that is an individual assessment made by Citibank when it receives your application, and at the first invitation the maximum is $25,000 with the chance to increase it over time to a maximum of $60,000. For more information om that click through to the terms and conditions . The maximum balance transfer allowed (debt from your other cards) is 80% of your credit limit to a maximum of $10,000. So the most you can transfer across is $10,000.

Am I eligible for this card? My annual salary is $50000 and I am on bridging visa at the moment
Roland
April 5th, 2013 at 8:46am
HI Rachel, in all honesty even people on a long stay business visa (457) can find it difficult getting a suitable credit card because of the need to establish a good credit history here in Australia. It is possible, but a good few months of credit history with an Australian bank is still recommended (overseas credit cards and credit history won’t count). In your situation, where you are on a a bridging visa, which isn’t as permanent – at least not yet – getting a credit card may not be easy. At the very least you’d have to wait until you have a substantive visa approved if you’re waiting for that before looking into getting a credit card. We’d really recommend getting professional advice on that – starting with the ASIC MoneySmart website. There are steps you can take from now to give yourself every chance of getting a credit card approved, such as signing a lease or appliance rental agreement, ensuring you use an Australian bank account and keep it in good credit if you’re not doing that already, taking out a mobile phone contract if you haven’t already etc. All of these things go towards establishing you as creditworthy. In the meantime too there are many prepaid credit card options available from all the major banks and Australia Post. These serve the same purpose as a credit card you just have to load them up and can’t actually go into debt. Good luck with it!

Hi there,
Does this credit card have an amount I need I spend on it monthly? I have come across a few that u need to spend over so many $$ a month or it charges a monthly fee
Roland
April 4th, 2013 at 5:06pm
Hi Kimmii, you are correct that some cards, with certain banks, will waive the annual fee if the cardholder spends, for example, $2000 per month or $10 000 per year. You can check the terms and conditions of a credit card you are interested in to find out whether this applies, or we usually signal it in our features table, review or other material where this applies. With this card, you pay half the annual fee for the first year, but after that you still have to pay the standard annual fee (currently $99) if you keep the card beyond the first year. Hope that helps!

is there a minimum period that I have to be with CB, for example if I have paid my partial BT and at the end of 9 month and i decide to move on to another CC provider, will this change something, apart from the fact that I have to pay the annual fee?
Roland
March 25th, 2013 at 4:43pm
Hi Deepti, there isn’t any hard and fast rule about when you can apply for a second balance transfer, but you must always consider what impact another application and credit card can have on your credit file as a whole. Remember that banks and lenders can see what goes on your credit file for up to 7 years, which is why it pays to check that all entries are correct, no defaults are recorded and that everything is up to date before applying for new credit.
Also you are correct that any annual fee, or other fees owing at the time you want to cancel the other card will have to be paid before you can close it and stop making any payments. Hope that helps!
Roland
March 25th, 2013 at 4:45pm

What information do I need at my finger tips before I start the application process
Roland
March 22nd, 2013 at 2:48pm
Hi Wendy. You will need:
Your employment details, income and HR information from your employer (so payslips and/or bank statements and records as well as a name and contact the bank can call to verify your employment and income),
ID such as drivers license, passport number or 18+ card
Bank account and existing credit card details (card numbers, issuing bank, expiry and amount owing),
Current debt obligations – i.e loans, hire purchase agreements or other credit contracts
A total of your expenses each month including rent, food, transport and living expenses; and
Details of any additional income you receive aside from your regular income. This could be investments, payments you get on a regular basis or income from a side or freelance business
You should also be ready to send photocopies/scans of your ID and proof of income documents as the bank will probably require these before finally approving your application.
Hope that helps!

At the end of the 0% period and there is still a balance to be paid. Is there a exit fee for leaving or any fine print about having to stay with them and get a new 0% period with another lender?
Roland
March 20th, 2013 at 8:00am
Hi Leon, there is nothing called an ‘exit fee’ as such, and no rule about how long you have to keep the card open but you need to pay the full balance owing and any other applicable fees (such as annual fee, late payment fee, transaction fees etc) before the card can be closed properly so you don’t receive statements and requests for payment. You would either need to arrange the funds or request another balance transfer with another provider to do this. Once you’ve done that, you can request your Citibank card be closed. Always keep in mind the impact a new credit card may have on your credit history, and you can do a free credit check with Veda if you would like to check that out first: http://www.mycreditfile.com.au

March 19th, 2013 at 5:13pm
What is the minimum repayment? If I have $15000 on a credit card, can my repayment be $30 or must it be 2%?
Roland
March 20th, 2013 at 8:18am
Hi Liz, with this card your balance transfer amount must not exceed $10 000, or 80% of your credit limit if you want to transfer less than $10 000. That doesn’t mean you can’t be assigned a higher credit limit, but that is the most you can balance transfer. The repayments will be 2% of your balance, or $30 if 2% works out to be less than $30 total. Hope that helps!

March 14th, 2013 at 8:20pm
does transferring card need to be cancelled?????
Roland
March 15th, 2013 at 10:18am
Hi Anthony, there is no hard and fast rule that you must cancel the card you transfer a balance from. Keep in mind things such as your credit file, your other debts and obligations and how likely you might be to use the card again and whether this is a good or bad idea for your finances. The bank will not cancel your old card if you do apply for a balance transfer, you have to do that separately with the old bank once the transfer is complete and the balance is fully paid off along with any fees owed. Hope that has helped clear things up for you.

Do I have to close my current non-Citibank card to take advantage of the transfer debt at 0% for 9 months to Citibank?
Roland
March 14th, 2013 at 2:40pm
Hi Gary, you do not have to cancel the card no, but the form may ask you whether you intend to cancel. If you do decide to cancel the card you will have to do this after the balance is paid off, including any applicable fees and charges and Citibank will not cancel the card for you.

March 13th, 2013 at 9:55am
Thanks Roland for your advice. I already have a personal loan so that option is out, I will not be able to pay the $10000 off within the 9 months so how do I calculate whether it is better to save money in the interest free priod then reverting to cash advance cost. I am struggling with repayments just on my interest right now and am getting nothing paid at all on the actual card other than that. Would the $2250 I save in fees be negated by the high fee afterwards or could I do the same thing and transfer again to a different card? Thanks I am so confused!!. Carol
Roland
March 14th, 2013 at 9:35am
Hi Carol, it will depend what you can pay off within the 9 months, and whether you will have a significant portion of the balance left to pay off at the end. There is no rule saying that you couldn’t apply for a second balance transfer if there is a suitable offer available at that time or shortly after, but you will have to consider your credit file, how likely it is to be approved etc at that time and weigh things up. You never know what offers may become available between now and then.
You could also look at other options or exactly how much you would lose when the rate reverts. Unfortunately this is getting into the territory of financial advice though, which we can’t provide (sorry!). You can check out the ASIC website (www.asic.gov.au) for what to do about managing repayments and when you need more time etc and have a look on our blog for other useful posts. Hope that helps!

Hi Roland,
I have $15000 worth of credit limit with Commonwealth bank. I have had this card for nearly 2 or over years.
I want to withdraw the funds of my credit card from CBA and use citibank’s balance transfer to pay the credit card from CBA. Would this be possible?
I would need around $15000 worth of credit or more from citi bank…is this possible? My annual salary is over 60K.
Please let me know if this looks feasible to you and i should step forward with the procedures.

March 13th, 2013 at 8:58am
Hi KD, you can transfer a maximum of 80% of your credit limit, or $10 000 onto this card, whichever is the lowest. You could transfer up to $10 000 with this card. Otherwise you could look for a different offer, but always check the maximum amount you are allowed to balance transfer.

March 12th, 2013 at 11:33am
With a $10000 amount owing would this be better than tha NAB low interest card at 1% for balance transfers but a lower ongoing interest rate?
Roland
March 13th, 2013 at 9:11am
Hi Carol, we can’t recommend one card over another or tell you what to do, but as this card reverts to the cash advance rate after the balance transfer period, the Low Rate card would mean paying less interest on the balance you have left over. You also need to consider how much you can pay off before the balance transfer period ends, and any other options for the debt after that though. With the NAB card you do get three more months at the promo rate. and you never know what new offers might appear over the next year or so. A loan could also be an option depending on your financial circumstances. Hope that helps!

Can I transfer my credit card balance to another bank if my card was cancelled?
Roland
March 11th, 2013 at 8:52am
Hi Maria, that would depend. We are not aware of situations where you can cancel a credit card with a balance owing. You may be able to request cancellation but this wouldn’t take effect (i.e you would receive statements and requests for payment) until the balance was paid in full.

Hello, is 9 months the longest I will find for balance transfer with low or no interest?
Roland
March 7th, 2013 at 8:51am
Hi Katrina, as our tables are at the moment 9 months is the longest offer for 0% interest. You will see other offers for 1% which give you 12 months though, as NAB cards currently do, and a few in between such as St George’s Vertigo which is 0.99% for 9 months. Offers can change at any time, so you can always keep checking back every couple of weeks until you find an offer you are happy with, the choice is yours. Why not subscribe to our newsletter so you will be notified of new offers if you are prepared to wait to find the right balance transfer card for you?

Hi, can you balance transfer 100% of what you owe on your current credit card?
Roland
March 7th, 2013 at 9:00am
Hi Steph, it depends on the credit limit you are approved for, with Citibank you are allowed to transfer 80% of your total credit limit. If you want to transfer 100% of your balance owed, you need to request a higher credit limit to account for the extra 20% (just keep your estimates realistic as to what you’ll be approved for. Unfortunately we can’t help with that and can’t give financial advice about what credit limit will and will not be approved). Your other option is simply plan for the amount left on your old card and pay that off too. With some banks you can transfer 95% of your credit limit, you have to check with the issuer before filling out an application.

Hi, What are the fees for using this card overseas and what conversion rate is used?
Roland
March 6th, 2013 at 9:09am
Hi Cassie, the fee for overseas transactions (including eftpos) if you use a Visa card for a purchase it’s 3.4% of the transaction amount. Wothdrawing cash at a foreign ATM is $5. The conversion rate will be the prevailing market rate.

Hi Roland,
Can you advise if on a transfer, the 0% interest on a balance transfer applies to the entire amount transferred e:g store purchases and cash advances or just store purchase amounts? I transferred my balance to a lower interest card last year before I knew about citibank’s great card!
Thanks
Judi
Roland
March 5th, 2013 at 8:47am
Hi Judi, you can transfer the balance of another credit card or store card onto this card. Whether your other credit card balance is made up of purchases or cash advances doesn’t make a difference, the credit card balance overall can be transferred – provided the amount is within the allowed credit limit and you meet the other eligibility criteria.

Roland

If you take the option at 0% for nine months can you transfer your balance to another credit card. Is there a time limit on how long you must keep this account open for?
Roland
February 26th, 2013 at 4:34pm
Hi Cheryl, there is no specific time you are required to keep the card for, but it can’t be closed before it is paid off or the remaining balance is transferred. We can’t say whether any further balance transfer application would be accepted or rejected because the banks use their own criteria for assessing applications. Hope that helps!

Is this card available for balance transfers of $15,000 and is there a penalty for early payment of the balance prior to the 9 months?
Roland
February 19th, 2013 at 8:43am
Hi Sam, there is no specific credit limit maximum under the $10 000 stated in the terms and conditions. The credit limit you are allocated will depend on what you are approved for by Citibank. This will be based on the bank’s own assessment of your finances according to what you put in your application. You will not incur a penalty for paying off the card before the end of the 9 month balance transfer period, but do remember that the 0% interest rate ONLY applies to balances transferred. Anything else you use the card for, or any purchases after the balance transfer period, will attract a higher interest rate. Hope that helps!

My husband has a Citibank rewards credit card -platinum and is currently paying 20.99% on purchases and 21.74% on cash advances. The interest payments are large. Can we do a balance transfer to a new credit card within Citibank and clear off our current one? Or can we negotiate a better interest rate on our existing card?
Roland
February 19th, 2013 at 9:03am
Hi Elle – any transfer done to another Citibank card should be from a non-Citibank credit card or store card, or personal loan account. You can speak to the bank about a card swap, however you would have to look at other card providers to get a 0% or very low balance transfer rate. You can view current offers on our balance transfer table. These rates exist so that the banks can entice customers away from the competition, so that’s how they work. Hope that helps!

Hi I have an credit card with connmbank wth a limit of $13 000 . If I purchase something for the full amount. Can I do a balance trasfer of the entire amount to the citibank card? Also how do I apply for this?
Roland
February 18th, 2013 at 12:18pm
Hi Reena, with this card, total balance transfers cannot exceed 80% of your allowed credit limit or a maximum of $10 000. The 80% limit means that if you were able to transfer $13 000 you would have to either transfer 20% less than the $13 000 owing, or request a credit limit which is 20% higher when you submit your application. 20% of $13000 is $2600, so getting rid of the full debt would require requesting a credit limit of $15600 in total. You should always consider what your repayments would be, what you believe you can afford to pay back and what the bank is likely to approve as a credit limit before applying, as this is no indication that the higher credit limit will be approved.
Roland
February 18th, 2013 at 12:20pm
Apologies for missing the bit about how to apply Reena! Once you have all your information, and have made your decision, you can click the ‘Apply’ link (the green button) right there under this card or any card you wish to apply for. You’ll be taken straight to the bank’s secure application and can submit it from there.

Hello
I’m trying to find a good credit card I just want to pay the one I’ve got off I don’t use the one I have now or very rarely its there in case of emergency. Would this card be good for me or not
Roland
February 18th, 2013 at 10:06am
Hi Rhys, if you have an existing credit card debt then a balance transfer credit card is the type designed to minimise interest payments. The Citibank Clear Platinum card is a balance transfer offer and is very popular, however we cannot say whether it is right for your individual circumstances. You will have to consider how well it suits your own needs. The blog has a lot of helpful articles and our tables, including the balance transfer table, show you current deals on the market so you can get a proper understanding of what’s available if you look at our tables and the different card features next to each other. Best of luck.

Hi I have a cc approval of $9000
A equity loan of $35000
would transferring to a 0% for 9 months and then transferring back to the equity account afterwards work?
Roland
February 18th, 2013 at 9:19am
Hi Pam, aside from our previous answer from the balance transfers page, whether or not you are able to transfer any remaining balance back into your equity loan would depend on the terms of the loan you have, so unfortunately we can’t answer that. If you have a balance remaining at the end of the 9 month introductory period, you would need to be aware that the interest rate would be higher on your repayments after that time.

just wondering if i dont pay the balance off before the 9 months does the interest rate of the balance transfered get charged at 21.74% or the 11.99%
thanks
Roland
February 14th, 2013 at 1:41pm
Hi Lisa, it will revert to the cash advance rate, so that’s 21.74% you’d be paying on the remaining balance. You would need to think about what to do with the remaining debt at that time, and see how much you can pay off within the nine months. Hope that helps.

Hi Roland,
Yes i currently have a personal loan with CUA Australia for $5000.
So does this mean i could apply for your Citibank Credit card to pay off this loan?
If so; do i have to have had the loan for any specified period?
Thanks
Roland
February 11th, 2013 at 8:30am
Hi Paul, we have checked this with Citibank for you and they have no requirement that you have to have had the loan for any specified time before applying. Do remember that the balance transfer has to be within you allowed credit limit, and only 95% (or less) of your total credit limit can be transferred under a balance transfer. Hope that helped!

I want to balance transfer from one card in my name and one card in my wifes name, is that possible?
Roland
February 12th, 2013 at 12:24pm
Hi Joshua, you would have to be a primary account holder to do a balance transfer, or you and your wife would have to be joint account holders of the card/account you want to transfer from and the one you want to transfer to. It works like this: if your name and your wife’s name are not both on the same card it wouldn’t be possible to do a balance transfer. For more information and to discuss other options, you should contact the bank. Citibank does have other products which allow you to draw down a cheque once you are approved, which you can use any way you like when it is deposited into your account (such as paying off a credit card in someone else’s name). See our page on Ready Credit for more information on that. Hope that helps!

Hi There,
I have recently taken out a personal loan (Unsecured) to pay for some emergency dental work. $5000.00
Am i able to use this credit card to “balance transfer” to pay off the loan?
Roland
February 8th, 2013 at 9:49am
Hi Paul, Citibank does accept balance transfers from personal loans, but it would have to be a non-Citibank account. Lines of credit, visa or MasterCard balances from other banks and store card balances (not funded by Citibank) are also accepted. On the Citibank website it state that the bank does not accept balance transfers from other Citibank accounts or cards, from foreign or overseas accounts or where the amount requested is greater than the credit limit available.
You should also check whether there are going to be early repayment or termination fees (or other types of fees and charges) if you are able to transfer the loan. You should contact the loan provider to find that information. Hope that helps!

Can you transfer a balance from a CC and a personal loan?
Roland
February 7th, 2013 at 4:41pm
Hi Amy, Citibank lists these debts which can’t be transferred to a balance transfer card:
Existing Citibank account balances
Account balances from financial institutions outside Australia
Amounts greater than your available credit limit (credit limit will be subject to Citibank lending criteria and may be limited to a portion of available credit limit).
It would depend which bank your personal loan is with, and you would have to check with Citibank about the loan balance amount.
Hope that helps.

Are you able to transfer the balances of two cards
Roland
February 4th, 2013 at 10:42am
Hi Kai, yes you are. We double checked this with Citibank in particular and there is no limit on the number of cards you can transfer with them (some other banks have a limit of two or three cards). This is fine so long as what you want to transfer doesn’t exceed the credit limit Citibank is willing to approve you for.

Hi William,
1) 1.5 Citi points is one Kris Flyer mile
2) The travel insurance provides cover for spouses and children, up to certain limits for certain events such as loss/damage to personal belongings, hospital cover or accidental death but you should check the full policy details to see whether this is right for you. Does the ‘Balance Rate Transfer’ of 0% for 9 months apply as well to new credit card holders (i.e. this will be thier first credit card)
Roland
January 30th, 2013 at 2:25pm
Hi Jora, the balance transfer rate of 0% for 9 months will only apply to the actual balance transferred by the new card holder. Therefore if you do not transfer a balance you cannot get this rate applied to it. All of the other rates, fees and features of the card apply as normal to a first credit card holder.

Is there a minimum time that you must have the card for or can you transfer again before or just after the 0% BT date is up? Does this incur a cost terminate the card also?
Roland
January 18th, 2013 at 10:29am
Hi Troy, we’re not aware of a minimum time period, but you must check the possibility with the new card issuer you want to move to, and the card issuer you are moving from. Every time you make an application it goes on your credit history, so issuers may turn you down for new applications if they see you’ve made recent or multiple transfers. Failed applications again will look negative on your credit history. Check out ASIC for more guidance if you need it. We’re also not aware of a cost to cancel a card unless there is still a balance, interest or fee outstanding on the card.

Hi JJ, I’ve been advised by Citibank that you should try calling them on 13 24 84 from Australia to raise their concern and discuss any options regarding the annual fee of the card for the second year. In order to cancel the card you would need to pay off the outstanding balance in full.

Roland
January 11th, 2013 at 9:20am
Hi Minku, there are no charges for the actual balance transfer. You can transfer a total amount up to 95% of your credit limit. The credit limit will be assigned to you according to Citibank’s credit limit criteria of your application – so I’m afraid I can’t tell you exactly how much you can transfer.
