HSBC Gold Credit Card

The HSBC Gold VISA Credit Card is a prestige “gold” card offered by HSBC and VISA.

Like other prestige cards it is more restrictive in whom it allows to hold the card, having a reasonably strict lower income limit and the requirement for applicants to have a good credit history.  It is aimed at people who travel abroad a great deal, whether for business or leisure.  The HSBC Gold VISA credit card is actively marketed towards people who pay their bills regularly who can be unprofitable for differently structured cards.

There are a number of complimentary insurance products offered on the card.  This includes free travel insurance on any travel where the gold card is used to buy the tickets.  It covers a wide range of items including medical expenses, rental car damage and cancelled flights.  There is also extended warranty assurance which lasts for an extra twelve months on most personal goods purchased on the cards.  There is a guaranteed pricing policy which covers when a price falls after a purchase over a short period.  There is a purchase protection policy that allows for damages to purchases made on the card.

The Rewards Plus programme is a rewards programme that rewards a credit card holder for every dollar spent on the card.  There are also Bonus Partners, who when the card is used with them can earn double or triple points.  The gold card also has a shopping range attached to this rewards programme including special wines and discounts on the VISA plus programme.

There is a Home & Away Privilege Program which gives instant discounts on a number of items including travel, shopping and accommodation.  It is available in over forty countries as well as Australia.

The interest free period is 45 days, which is slightly higher than the industry standard but not as high as some cards offer.  However there is the ability to double this to 90 days on up to five purchases a year.  Alternatively these five annual purchases can opt for a lower interest rate for 120 days.  There is also an introductory low rate on balance transfers for up to six months.

The card is issued by VISA which is the largest credit card provider in the world and so it is accepted at a large number of credit cards.    VISA also offers a zero liability guarantee which guarantees that there is no liability to a credit card holder if their credit card is used for an unauthorised transaction.
