GO MasterCard

GO MasterCard is a credit card offered by General Electric consumer finance.  It is an unusual card in that it has interest free offers open on certain goods, but these goods change from shop to shop.

The card grows out of GE Finance’s speciality of offering consumer finance to enable shops to sell big items.  This is the core of their business in Australia, and easing the ability to buy large goods was the reason why GE set up its consumer finance arm in the 1930s. Today they are one of the world’s largest consumer finance companies in the world in their own right.  In some ways the card can be seen as a logical extension of GE Finance’s core business.

There are two offers that are available on the card.  The first is a buy now, pay later facility.  This means that a customer can choose a good and for a period it never gets added to the GO MasterCard balance and so there is no interest charged during this time and this does not affect the minimum balance on the card.

There is a modified form of the buy now – pay later facility, which are interest free periods.  These are also interest free although a client has to maintain minimum payments on this portion of the credit card balance during this time.  Any payments that are made during this period are made on the interest free element, so the interest bearing element will be allowed to grow untouched.

These offers are not available on all goods.  They are only available in some stores and on some goods.  The goods on which they are offered change from store to store.

More than 10,000 stores that accept these cards, distributed over a number of chains.  Although there are many different areas of spending in which this card can be used the stores are usually ones that sell big ticket items such as furniture, home improvement items and electrical goods.  These are listed in full on the GO MasterCard website.

The Go MasterCard is also a normal credit card as well, offering an Interest free period of up to 62 days which is far longer than most other cards.  There is also a rewards programme that is free for any card user to join and which centres on a points system for spending.

The GO MasterCard can be either a personal card or a business card.  The business card can be used by employees with separately set credit limits.   These can also be printed with the business name on the card.

MasterCard is one of the two top credit card providers in the world, and is accepted in more than 28 million destinations.   It offers a zero liability guarantee for unauthorised transactions and a sophisticated anti-fraud measure.
