The Citibank Gold MasterCard

The Citibank Gold MasterCard is a prestige credit card offered by Citibank and MasterCard.  It is a good card for the perks that it offers, although the price tends to be higher than other cards.

Gold cards are designed to offer a better service for the better credit card users, defined as those who are reliable at repaying and who use their credit card a great deal.

The Citibank Gold MasterCard has a balance transfer deal that offers a very low interest rate for the first twelve months on the card.   The interest rate is slightly higher than average, but around about the standard for a full service gold card.

The gold card offers a purchase protection plan that will insure all goods that are bought on the card against breakages, loss and theft.  This policy, which is an externally underwritten insurance policy, will give three months cover for all goods bought on the card at no extra cost.   There is an excess that operates on the purchase protection insurance.

There is also international travel insurance that operates on overseas flights that are bought with the card.  This will cover medical insurance as well as the ordinary issues that people have with travel insurance such as lost luggage and the costs of canceled flights.

The annual fee is $149, with $30 being charged for every additional card.  Citibank also offers a Silver card which has a lower fee but the same interest rate – however there are some services, such as purchase cover which it does not offer which the gold card does.  The Citibank Gold MasterCard has a high credit limit which can be as high as $60,000.

The Citibank World Privileges plan is an instant rewards program that offers both discounts and upgrades on a number of restaurants, hotels, shops and theatres.  Unlike many other instant rewards programs it is a worldwide scheme.

There is also a more conventional earned rewards program where there are points that are accrued as a result of spending.  When the card gets enough points then these points can be traded for flights.  The rewards program is open to any airline.

The card is issued by MasterCard which is the world’s second largest credit card processor.  It is a worldwide group that is based in the United States and is accepted at more than 29 million shops and service providers around the world.
