BankWest Zero Gold MasterCard

The BankWest Zero Gold MasterCard is a gold credit card offered by the Bank of Western Australia.  The credit card processer is MasterCard, which is the world’s second biggest credit card provider.

The main point about the BankWest Zero Gold MasterCard is that it charges no annual or monthly fee.  It does this partly by not operating a rewards program in the same way that the BankWest “More” range of credit cards doe.  The interest rate is higher than the BankWest Lite Gold MasterCard.

The BankWest Zero Gold MasterCard is one of the more easy to understand credit cards as it has a simple structure and some uncomplicated rules. The interest rate is in the middle between BankWest’s the low rate that is charged on its Lite gold card and the higher rate charged on the BankWest More Gold MasterCard.  They are unusual for a credit card that does not charge an annual fee in that they have reasonably competitive charges and a good interest rate in comparison with other credit cards.

The BankWest Zero Gold MasterCard has an introductory balance transfer offer for credit cards that are not operated by the Bank of Australia.  This offers a very low interest rate for nine months, after which the rate reverts to the new rate.  This low rate will not be available for cash advances or spending that is done on the card during the introductory period.  The card operates a 1% balance transfer fee.  This is a proportion of the transferred balance.  The fee is capped at $50, or a balance of $5,000.

Credit card cash advances are available, and the interest rate is the same.  The interest free grace period is 55 days.  Other member of the family can have additional cards, with up to three cards allowed for no extra charge.  There is no rewards program for spending but there is the RewardMe program which offers instant discounts from a number of service providers and shops.

As a gold card the card offers a number of free insurance policies for items bought using the card.  There are extended warranties lasting for up to 12 months on items with an Australian manufacturer’s warranty.  There is also purchase insurance covering against theft, loss and breakages for three months after purchase.

If a flight ticket is bought on the card then travel insurance activated.  Within Australia interstate flight insurance covers cancellations and losses on domestic flights, and international travel has some medical cover.
